A sad day for hockey!

Colleen Howe passes away after a lengthy illness.
Married Mr Hockey in 1953.

The first woman sports agent ever, she was enshrined in the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame in 2000 and the arena in her hometown of Sandusky, Mich., was renamed Colleen J. Howe Arena.

Mrs. Hockey's most famous negotiation came in 1973 when the Howe family made hockey history with the Houston Aeros of the World Hockey Association. Gordie, at age 45, a native of Floral, Sask., came out of retirement to play with sons Marty and Mark on the same line.

Yes, sad indeed. My sympathy to her family. She had suffered from dementia for many years.

Gordie is probably the greatest all around player that the game ever had because he could do it all. By todays standard he was grossly underpaid by the Wings but Colleen seen that he got what was due in his later years. RIP

She was an extraordinarily bright woman whom some put down as too ambitious. She was the brains behind Gordie, who was never an intellectual, but she also adored him, as he did her. Sad day for the first family of ice hockey.
