08 Mar 09 - 09:23 PM (#2584268) Subject: Opendoor Folk Club to close From: GUEST,flatcap The Opendoor Folk Club, Werneth,Oldham is closing on March 29th. This is due to declining attendances, and uncertainty about the venue due to the landlord's retirement. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has attended, and all the performers who entertained us,many of whom appear on Mudcat. Thank You Pauline |

Enjoyed playing your club with Ron as Red Duster, always regretted not getting back for some of the interesting line-ups you managed to put together. All the best for the future. Ross |

11 Mar 09 - 12:57 PM (#2586461) Subject: RE: Opendoor Folk Club to close From: Joan from Wigan Very sorry to hear about the closure decision. But why not look for another venue? The club has changed venues several times in the past, all clubs face this situation from time to time (I've just had to find yet another venue for one of our Wigan nights). And with a new venue, you always pick up new members. It's like an excuse for a fresh start, and it always gives a boost to flagging enthusiasm. As one door closes, another half a dozen open, to misquote a famous saying. Please give some thought to the possibility, it would be so sad for the Open Door to close permanently. Just think of what you could do in a larger room than the one you've been using... Very Best Wishes, Joan |

11 Mar 09 - 03:34 PM (#2586579) Subject: RE: Opendoor Folk Club to close From: Phil Edwards This is a great shame. I've never managed to get there (it's a bit of a hike from South M'cr) but always had it on my list. Is there any possibility of keeping it going in a new venue, or in a new form? It can be done (given enough energy & the right venue) - Sale FC is a new club with a lot of continuity with an earlier club, & they're packing them in. |

I really enjoyed having the opportunity to meet you as well as perform for you all last year. Hopefully we'll have the chance to cross paths once again at another place and time. Best wishes, Dan |
