Pubs Offering Folk Space

Lewes - East Sussex

The Snowdrop, I hear has new Management and now has a function room available.

Though not free, the price is likely to be *Considerably* lower than the price The Lewes Arms tried to charge the town's Saturday Folk Club from January this year.

Whilst the both town's Clubs may be happy at the moment, this sounds like an interesting venue for a Special Folk Night or reserve club room.

Worth calling in also for special outdoor folk events this Spring/Summer - or a bar session anyway?

The pub was until recent years on CAMRA's Real Ale trail and is in a lovely setting. Hope this is useful.

No! Before I posted I looked in Yelow Pages for a phone number. No luck.

Best try and can get along there - its in a beautiful setting at the edge of Cliffe district (by the Tunnel!!).

Snowdrop

Been to folk evenings there - on and off - over the years. Sadly, as with many pubs these days, management and policies change...

I gather the pub has only recently changed hands again so it should be worth anyone interested in any sort of Folk event there calling in to sound things out.

I might well do that - just out of curiosity - but not necessarily for a "folk" night. Lewes has several excellent clubs and sessions as it is. Now, there might just be an opening for a little blues, ragtime and old-time string band music...

Ian, thanks for the tip-off. When the Lewes Saturday Folk Club (formerly the Lewes Arms, now at the Elephant & Castle) puts on several all-day workshops on the same day, we need to use more than one pub at a time. At the moment we use the Elephant itself, the Crown and the Royal Oak; it's always handy to know of another possible venue.

The Snowdrop used to be veggie and also sold antique furniture, so you could buy a meat-free pie and a table to put it on as well. It's a pleasant, slightly dotty pub in a quiet cul-de-sac and has a bit of garden. It used to run The Alternative Miss World Competiton, a drag extravaganza with attitude.
