Ray Fisher recordings

09 Mar 09 - 04:06 PM (#2584935)
Subject: Ray Fisher recordings
From: Thomas Stern

I am seeking information about any recordings of RAY FISHER peformances which have been issued in festival or "various artist" albums.

We ARE AWARE of her major releases, including:
Ray & Archie Fisher, Edinburgh recordings on DECCA UK and WAVERLY.
Ray & Archie, Fisher Family, Scotts collections etc. on TOPIC
solo recordings on LEADER, FOLK-LEGACY, SAYDISC.

If you have any issues OTHER than the above, please provide
Label, Catalog number, date, Ray's tracks. Detailed contents, and scans of album/notes would be appreciated if you can provide this.

THANKS, Thomas.

Not "performance" per se, but there is "The Iron Muse."

Ray appeared on both Edinburgh Folk Festival Lps - 1 (1963) & 2 (1964), but if you are aware of her Decca UK recordings then presumably you're aware of those?

Yup, my tongue was firmly stuck in my cheek!
But I notice the OP already has knowledge of this recording!
Just too enthusiastic to help I guess.

One of my all time favourite singers stayed with us many times in the early 1970's when we helped run Stevenage folk club. Glad to see her be awarded a Gold Badge by EFDSS along with Colin Ross and Louis Killen, every credit.

Thanks to Stephanie Smith and Steve Byrne I have been informed that
the SCHOOL OF SCOTTISH STUDIES online catalog is now available.

search School of Scottish Studies

The link will bring you to a SEARCH page - enter RAY FISHER
and a couple of hundred items are displayed. These include songs
and some incredibly informative interviews with Ray, her siblings,
and others. The recordings include material recorded in 1960 up
through the 1980's. MAGNIFICENT!!!

I will be including these in the Ray Fisher discography, which will be posted here as time permits.

An updated version (not including the above) has been posted to the Ballad-List.

If anyone has private recordings of concerts, broadcasts, etc., I would appreciate listings. You should make sure provision is made for the preservation of such recordings.

Best wishes, Thomas.
