I did just buy a great compilation of the Glaser Brothers when I was up in Branson last week, but it did not include Molly Darling. Had a bunch of good'uns though. I think sometimes about these little asides, but I do believe that they serve a purpose if someone is looking for recordings to buy and listen to. Your mention of the Glasers certainly gave me something to look for later. |

The first old-time/country recording was by Vernon Dalhart on 8 December 1925 in Atlanta, issued in March 1926 as Co 15054-D. The version on 'Mac and Bob', cited above, was a solo by Lester MacFarland especially for the Birch album [no date on album sleeve - RB suggested 1969 above in this thread]. The album does not say, but there are two things to indicate that is probably correct. Picture caption: Mac is congratulated by Chicago State Hospital superintendant, Dr. Francois Alouf as he receives a service award for sixteen years on the hospital staff, September 17, 1969. Notes excerpt: MOLLY DARLING, OLD SHEP, and OLD FASHIONED LOCKET (the latter was written by the teams old quartet partner, Lester O'Keefe) are solos which Mac has recorded especially for this album, with the talented accompaniment of Ray Tate on guitar |
