Our second Lakeside Folk Circle gathering is on this Sunday, March 22 at Teralba, just south of Newcastle in New South Wales. All welcome to join the rapid-fire three hour concert at which everyone and anyone who wants to do a spot gets the chance. Or just sit back and enjoy the music. Can we improve on the 50 people at last month's launch? I think we can. Teralba Community Hall from 4pm. See you there ... can you make it this time Helen???   Cheers, Paul

I forgot to mention the small $2.50 entry donation to cover the hall hiring costs and also the free tea and biscuits!!

Thanks Sandra: Yes I wrote it.... I know Cec the publisher very well and he was at our first gathering last month. He took some pics for us too.
Marketing your club is so important to give it a good chance of getting off the ground.
For example our local newspaper, the Lakes Mail, which I sent information to, looked after us very well with a story and photo (twice, before and after, in the paper and online), and we have online mentions at NBN TV and the local ABC. In addition we had a good mention in the Newcastle Folk Club magazine. It is in the Folk Federation's Cornstalk listings and also in the Folk News email which goes out regularly to lots of people. The Hunter Scots Club, which we hire the hall from, gave us a good mention in their newsletter. We also had brief Community Calendar mentions in two other Newcstle based weekly newspapers plus the Saturday Newcastle Herald. Then there's my bulk emails to people, phone calls and word of mouth etc.
Now all we have to do is ensure we run the club properly with a good mix of musicians and singers etc and keep at it for the future.
Let us know if you are ever coming up this way and a seat in the front row will be reserved!!

it's also on the Bush Music Club's eLIST which I send out monthly!

Naturally I took the initial mention from the Newcastle list & FF's Folkmail either got it from the Newcastle list or the eLIST. We all work together, stealing each other's info.

I'd love to get there one day - maybe I can get there via a visit to Carole in Newcastle or Rhymin' Simon in Kincumber.

Is that Carole Gardner the concertina player and singer of Northumberland songs? If so, Carole was there too and hopefully will be there on Sunday again. We also have a Celtic Festival coming up in May - at Teralba - spread over three days which has been organised by various Celtic clubs in the region. Will post more details when I have them.

Sorry, GARLAND!!

Sadly Carole's monthly session is not going too well. We went to the last one a week or so ago and only four of us turned up, so it may be put on the backburner for a while. Shame as it is a nice little venue she has moved it to. Hopefully it will continue with more support.
