Hello all,

I am making a pilot folk show for BBC Radio Devon which is going to be aired on Easter Sunday at 3pm. If you are unfortunate enough not to live in Devon, you can listen online at bbc.co.uk/devon/local_radio

I know there are other regional folk shows out there but on the BBC site they are not very easy to find as there is no comprehensive list. So far i have found these:

STATION        PRESENTER        TITLE        TIME
BBC Kent        Simon Evans        Kent Folk        Sun 9pm
BBC Shropshire        Genevieve Tudor                Sun 8pm
BBC Gloucester        Johnny Coppin                Sun 3pm
BBC Merseyside        Geoff Speed        Folkscene        Thurs 9pm
BBC York        Michael Brothwell                Weds 7pm
BBC Derby        Mick Peat        Folkwaves        Mon 7pm
BBC Scotland        Archie Fisher        Travelling Folk        Sat 10pm
BBC Wales        Frank Hennessy        Celtic Heartbeat        Sat 7pm
BBC Ulster        Colum Sands        Folk Club        Sat 8pm

Could you please help me fill in the gaps of the ones i've missed? There are so many more fab programmes out there besides the Radio 2 folk show and i think people need to know about them! Many thanks - Jim

Celtic Music Radio - 1530 AM (medium wave!) around Glasgow and at http://www.celticmusicradio.net

Broadcasting traditional and contemporary Scottish/celtic/folk/etc-influenced music 24x7, so you don't have to tune in at a specific time!

Schedules here - and you can see the sort of material we typically play by clicking the "playlists" button on that page, which lists the last few dozen tracks played by the automated playout system. It doesn't always, however, show tracks played during live shows.

Jim
there was a list of folk radio programmes in an issue of English Dance & Song last year. Are you a member yet? Just had phone calls from Pete Coe and Vic Gammon wanting to be on your show ... what should I tell them ... LOL...

Some of these programmes cover areas bigger than the name of the radio station implies. For example, Genevieve Tudor's show on Radio Shropshire is networked by Radio Stoke and BBC Hereford and Worcester

Hello Jim

Are you after Devon related folk songs? If yes....

Try 'Bridge the Dart" - the story of a project many years ago of The Dart Valley Railway" as was (South Devon Railway now?) to raise money to build a bridge across the River Dart so as to link their steam railway with Totnes.

The lyrics were published in a free advertising magazine across South Devon in the 1990s.

To have a listen. I've just put it on Myspace.com/fyviesfolk as song 6.

If you can use it you should be able to download it from myspace. If you can't let me know on 01273 509552 and I can send you a copy by another mode.

Best wishes for your project

Ian Fyvie
