CD Oregon Stories by The Trail Band

I had never ever heard of these fine musicians and singers before friend Ralph Bronner (of Dr. Bronner's Magic Soap) gave me their CD called OREGON STORIES. Some of the Mudcat family here knows of my affection for the state of Oregon as left over from our time living on the central Oregon Coast over 40 years ago, but this CD brought back a lot of it for me tonight--and I had better thank these talented people for the nostalgia trip.

So, THANKS.

Fine voices and instrumentation; it hit me as being close to a very tasteful blend of country-rock-Celtic-bluegrass and folk-------reminding me a bit of "The Band" mixed with the Dillards' great Wheatstraw Suite album ---but The Trail Band seems rather more polished. The lyrics are easy to hear and to understand--and the tales told have a lyrical narrative quality like good literature delivers. ---- The Oregon rain is here as well.

I do think many who hang out here in this Forum would enjoy the group a lot. I wanna find more of their music.

Have other Oregonians or Pacific Northwest folks any info about them??

Interesting, Art. I just finished up a 5-day residency with some fifth graders, doing music of the Westward Movement/Gold Rush and the Oregon Trail.

Are the songs newly composed, older or traditional, or a mix of all three?

Dave,
There are great trad songs, as you know, I'm sure, on 2 of those categories. Fewer traditional songs are around on the Oregon Trail---although Woody had a couple -- but he May have written things like "I'm Gonna Hit That Oregon Trail This Coming Fall."

That said, I think the songs on this CD are all recently composed by members of this aggregation--or their friends. I did a Mudcat search for them before I started the thread, and found nothing here to get in the way of the thread. ---- I will try Google----as I should've 2 days ago...
