26 Mar 09 - 02:31 AM (#2597530) Subject: RE: Mudcatter Memorial PermaThread From: Joe Offer As with all PermaThreads, the idea is for the editor (Rowan) to take the first several messages so they're at the top. He'll edit information in later, when he gets it assembled. There will be one permanent message for each person, including a link to the person's posts and a brief summary of what's memorable about him. I may eventually try to edit in pictures, but at least links to pictures for now. Rowan may want to solicit contributions of information to be compiled into the memorial message. Sorcha posted the beginning of a list of Mudcatters to memorialize. Who else? Let's limit this to people who were regular Mudcatters. We have obituary threads for the others. -Joe- |

26 Mar 09 - 10:20 AM (#2597742) Subject: RE: Mudcatter Memorial PermaThread From: wysiwyg Just a rod from someone else who manages a permathread.... each of us do the edits a little differently, but one thing they have in common is that later, when the edits are done, it can look like the editor was/is the only contributor, posting what no one seems to have posted back. I found it helpful, in mine, to use the posts others made as a place to fill in some of what I later edited around-- Example: Kat posted in mine and later (way later), I used her post because it came in sequence, chronologically, where I wanted a certain item to appear between to other items I was organizing topically. So I removed the "content" of her post, and swapped in my own material (I asked first). Otherwise, my only option would have been to delete the whole post, with no way to insert a new one in the middle of that chrono order. It takes awhile, as a permathread "editor," to see how to most usefully use the very simple tools that let permathreads work. I'm glad the tools are so simple-- it's a weird enough process messing into HTML as it is!-- and the simple tools really do suffice to get the job done, quite marvelously. Anyway, Rowan, feel free to use any of my posts as another open-entry spot for your material, without asking me first. ~Susan |

26 Mar 09 - 07:01 PM (#2598167) Subject: RE: Mudcatter Memorial PermaThread From: katlaughing I just put "obit" in the thread title filter and set the age it ALL...phew...so many folks have passed on in recent years. It's like reading a who's who in music and entertainment, etc. The Mudcatters whose obits I saw included some of the above-named and some of are obvious, but I list them all from what I saw and I may have missed some: Malcolm Douglas Rick Fielding Billy the Bus Little John Cameron Cranky Yankee aka Jody Gibson Giac aka Mary Giacomini (I have a GREAT picture of her.) Scrump Dave Bryant Walking Eagle aka Julie Pennell Fin I am thankful the list isn't as long as I thought it would be. |

26 Mar 09 - 07:42 PM (#2598187) Subject: RE: Mudcatter Memorial PermaThread From: catspaw49 No Susan I wasn't referring to that. Joe said he thought this should be limited to Mudcat members/regular posters. On that basis we eliminate a few mentioned. Using that and kat's list plus the others that qualify would bring us currently to this point: L R Mole Little John Cameron Winters Wages Malcolm Douglas Rick Fielding Billy the Bus Little John Cameron Cranky Yankee aka Jody Gibson Giac aka Mary Giacomini (I have a GREAT picture of her.) Scrump Dave Bryant Walking Eagle aka Julie Pennell Fin Sadly, I think there are more..... Spaw |

26 Mar 09 - 07:54 PM (#2598198) Subject: RE: Mudcatter Memorial PermaThread From: Susanne (skw) Is Bruce Olson not considered a Mudcatter any more? I'd think a thread like this one would be ideal for linking to his material, and even though he'd officially dropped out he kept posting helpful material anonymously but unmistakably. |
