Perhaps this has already been posted, but when I just searched, I didn't find it.

Dr. Franklin was a noted historian and civil rights advocate. He worked on Brown vs. Board of Education, and was the author of From Slavery to Freedom. The last several days there have been some wonderful interviews replayed, including one from NPR's story corps with his son.

Rest in peace, Dr. Franklin.

There have been some marvelous interviews played this week on various NPR programs. Dick Gordon from The Story spoke to him recently.

One of the absolute greats. He will be sorely missed.

Some of the posters on this forum who tend toward a Neo-Confederate viewpoint ( e.g. "The Civil War was about States Rights, not slavery" & such like nonsense ) would profit greatly from a reading of his many excellent works.

He was the Chairman of the History Department at Brooklyn College when I was a student there in the 1960s. Although I never took a course with him I did have the privilege of meeting with him one on one in his office. He was truly a great American and a wonderful human being.
