The IMSLP Petrucci Music Library - um?

While searching for music by Arbeau (16th C) I bumbled into this site. The home page says

"Welcome to the IMSLP / Petrucci Music Library
the free public domain sheet music library.
Online since February 16, 2006 · 14,766 works · 27,753 scores"

Can anybody figure out how to get to the scores that are supposedly on this site? I tried Arbeau and then I tried Johann Sebastian Bach, figuring that they MUST have something by good old J.S. No soap.

I seemed to have no problem - there's a lot of Bach, for example: Bach at ISMLP. (I started at the Main Page and used the Composer Name browse scores on the left of the page).

If you select a piece, you get taken to a page where you are invited to accept a copyright disclaimer. Here's the page for the Lute Pieces and if you select one of them eg the first, ms BWV995, it opens the pdf in your browser or right click and do "Save Target As..." to save to disc.

The first time I clicked one it did send me to a disclaimer page first which I had to accept, but that seems to be only the first time (you may need cookies enabled for the site at that point - that may be how it keeps track of accepting the disclaimer). After that the disclaimer didn't appear.

Here's the Arbeau page, which I think has only Orchesographie and a link to only Belle Qui Tiens Ma Vie.

I don't know why, Mike, but I don't get the results that you do. When I click on your Bach link, I get 'The page cannot be found.' The lute link produces an IMSLP page which says 'There is currently no text on this page.'

On the Bach composer page, I clicked on 'Top' and on every letter from A to M, and produced nothing.

This happens whether the pop-up blocker is on or off, so that's not it.

Baffling!

Maybe they can tell I'm not Canadian. Perhaps if I tell them I've read all the Benny Cooperman books and know what a Tim Horton's is, they'll let me see some music.

Works okay for me too - both using Firefox 2 on Windows 2000 Pro and iCab 2.9.9 on MacOS 9.1.

Their URLs look a bit unusual, maybe you have something set up to reject URLs in that format?

I got caught that way as well. Scroll down.

Why don't you ask this on the IMSLP forums?

Thanks, Snail. I figured it out. Some of the articles listed are articles, and some are pieces of music. I clicked on the notebook for Wilhelm Friedemann, and three pages later had a PDF of actual music.

What a relief.

"Why don't you ask this on the IMSLP forums?"

That would be like reading the manual - a usually fruitless task.
