Tech: SeaMonkey image size problem

I've used SeaMonkey for lo, these many moons. Now I have a problem which I don't understand.

When I click on the SeaMonkey icon, the image of the desktop expands by maybe 30 to 50%. Then a window comes up with a choice of which account to access (mine or my wife's). That window is also enlarged. So I choose say my account, and it goes to my homepage (Mudcat), and the image of Mudcat is similarly too large. I lose one or two letters from the leftmost words, and some of the image extends off the right side of the screen. In this case, there's no horizontal slider, so the right-most section of the screen is just unavailable.

The same thing applies in other websites, and sometimes there's an icon or button which I need to access, but it's out of reach off to the right.

The tech I contacted denies much if any knowledge of SeaMonkey, but says he found references on the web to a SeaMonkey default size. Now "default size" implies to me that there are other size options which can be set, but I don't find such a control.

I should say that I don't find this behavior in IE, nor in FireFox. And also, I downloaded the current version of SeaMonkey, thinking my old one was corrupt, but the same thing happens with the new version.

Any ideas?

It sounds like the screen resolution is reset by SeaMonkey.

How do you view the browser? Do you open a window the full size of your monitor screen, or do you reduce it so you can see some of the desktop behind the open window?

I think that's irrelevant, because the desktop enlarges before I get even to the choice of accounts window, much less the full SeaMonkey window where I would have a choice of window size.

To answer your question, however, I always (or ALMOST always) have the operating browser window occupy the entire screen.

If I choose to have the browser window adjustable and move it down or aside, I see that the desktop is still enlarged.

When I get off the web, I get a VERY brief screen with text and an icon, but it's gone within a half second or so (too quick to read), before I'm back to the desktop, properly proportioned.

The post-web momentary screen that I referred to above is generally black, with a small light-blue icon which has (along with other stuff I can't read that quickly) "Genuine Microsoft", and there's other text to the left of that icon, which I also can't read.

Eureka! Someone at Mozillazine Seamonkey Forums was able to direct me.

(S)he told me to find the Seamonkey executable (Seamonkey.exe), right click on it, and go to the compatibility section, then display, and see if any of the options were checked.

I did, and there I found a prompt to the effect of "Display in 800 x 680 resolution?" which was checked. I unchecked it and go out

Lo and behold, Seamonkey works as it should now.

Thanks for your attempts at helping.

I was poking around in their help files and didn't get to that point yet, but I had tracked down the executable file. I just now found the setting you corrected. Interesting.

Looks like I need to update my program to the newest version.

It took a couple of tries to update. I had to uninstall it first, and it offered to remove an entire directory filled with other programs.

No, thank you. But it's installed now.

Do you use the mail program also? Years ago I used Netscape and Netscape mail and liked the combination. Is that now SeaMonkey is working now?

The email program is the reason I use Seamonkey. I intensely dislike having to get out and go to another program to look at my email. If it weren't for that, I'd use FireFox, which is more "modern" and is accepted by a number of sites that have features that Seamonkey can't run.

And the less said about IE, the better.
