Let's see if we can keep it to two. But anyhow, Dick, I think you might do a good job yodeling. I guess I've heard yodeling mostly in American traditional-style country music and in music from the Alps. Are there any other styles of music that include yodeling? -Joe- |

From: Rasener This is my favourite yodelling song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nn27xBY8X68 I still remember everybody going round singing this one, in the early 60's, and it made everybody happy. I wonder if Dick can change it to suit his style. |

From: Murray MacLeod yodelling apart, Dick, what I would like to know is whether, as a live entertainer, your wit and repartee on stage compared to the wit and repartee you demonstrate on your Mudcat threads is: A much funnier B slightly funnier C just about the same D slightly less funny E much less funny. (just in case you are ever in my neck of the woods and I have the option of seeing you perform ). |

23 Apr 09 - 08:20 AM (#2616884) Subject: RE: what should Dick Miles do next, yodel? From: GUEST,Working Radish I'd say C. Which isn't bad going - I'm much funnier on Mudcat than on stage. I wish I could do the patter*, but the moment I get up there it all goes out of my head - which is odd, because songs hardly ever do. Maybe I should sing my introductions. *"Hello, good evening and welcome to Folk Club. My name's Roy Harper. This first song is by Millican and Nesbitt. [pause] Actually it's not *by* Millican and Nesbitt, it's by the King Brothers. [pause] It's from the album The King Brothers Play The Kray Brothers. [pause] And Lose." - Richard Digance, supporting Steeleye Span, Fairfield Halls, Croydon, 1974. Now I feel old. |

From: GUEST,leeneia One of my favorite yodelers is at http://www.kerrychristensen.com/ I've never seen him live, but I've listened to his recordings and enjoyed them. His yodeling is great and his 'normal' voice is very fine. I feel that a yodeler should be worth listening to between the yodels. Best of all, Kerry sells instructional stuff on how to yodel. He admits that most of the CD's are purchased by grandparents who give them to their grandchildren to get revenge on their own kids. |

25 Apr 09 - 01:36 AM (#2618345) Subject: RE: what should Dick Miles do next, yodel? From: Jim Carroll Hi Cap'n, One of Billy Connolly's funniest stories was of going into a music shop in Glasgow and finding the sheet music of Hank Williams songs with the yodeling written out word-for-word - 'yodel-e-dodle-e-do-del-dee...etc' As much as I enjoy yodelling and all similar styles of vocal techniques, and despite the fact that I cut my musical teeth on Hank Willimas records, I've never (quite) been able to take it seriously as an art form.
