BS: Obit: Another furry friend gone.

Alas, whilst Limpit and I are down in the Southern hemisphere enjoying a family reunion, my Shadow cat has passed on to that great litter tray in the sky.

She hasn't been that well recently, old age was gaining a stronger hold and she was reluctant to leave the house.

Apparently she went out on Friday, was seen on the roof of a neighbour's shed, but didn't come in again. Manitas found her on Saturday morning, behind the shed.

My Shadow has been with us since before our first wedding anniversary and we're getting on for our 19th this year. She was a stray that I brought home from the library I worked at, where she'd obviously been dumped or left in the area. She was about 2 then, making her upwards of 20 now. She was a faithful companion and I'm going to miss her most when we get home to our door on Wednesday... she won't be there to greet us with her loud, insistant meow.

Oh, Liz, so sorry...it may have been her own kindness to you to let go whilst you're away. Doesn't make it easier I know, but they do seem to do such things. I am glad manitas was able to find her so you aren't left wondering what has happened. It was a good long life she had, I am sure. {{{{{hugs to you all}}}}}}}

My regrets, Liz. I once had a cat named Shadow and I still remember the pang at losing her -- not as sharp; faded to melancholic nostalgia.

Condolences from me and Grisabella, Liz.   I'm glad you find her too and weren't left wondering and worrying about her. Spaw's right, even a 20+- year life span isn't really long enough.

Thinking of you Liz, Limpet, and Manitas. May your memories of Shadow ease the sadness of her departure.

Liz, Limpit, and Manitas, there is no good time to loose a beloved pet. I'm sorry that this happened when you were away and couldn't (perhaps) be there for a small ceremony and burial, but I'm sure that if your Shadow is like our calico Clementine, you'll still catch her out of the corner of your eye every so often. They stick around for a while, I think. Best wishes to all of you.

As it happens, a best friend in Oregon also had a cat "Shadow" pass away this past week. It has left a big hole in their hearts..his other kitties have needed and given extra lovings this week.

I'm sorry Liz. As others have said, even when our furry friends live long lives it's never long enough.

Sorry for the loss, Liz. Pets truly become members of the family.We have had quite a few cats in the past but none so lovable as Ashley, the one we have now.It will be a sad day when she passes away. Again, you have my condolences.

I've been giving a neighbours cat here (her name is Belle and her owner is away for a few weeks so my sister is looking after her) some cuddles and love, she's nothing like Shadow, except that she's feline, but it helps.

Thanks all.

This is really sad news, I've known Shadow since Liz first brought her to London and I am going to miss her terribly, In the last few years she always came and sat with me when I visited and let me scratch her ears and often slept with her head on my knee, She was a gentle noble Mog with,in spite of her health problems in recent years, with a lovely disposition. So long, old friend, I will miss you
