It seems to take around 12 days to reach the other end, but far cheaper than Western Union. Western Union though is instant, in minutes, but you do pay for that, plus, the more you send via WU, the higher the fee they charge. Hope the concert goes really well, chance. Big hug to Severn! 10 May 09 - 03:57 PM (#2628492) Subject: RE: BS: Transferring money from the UK to US From: Richard Bridge Paypal is instant if you debit it to a credit card account. THat is IMHO dangerous because although in the UK if you give a drect debit mandate on a bank account, the "direct debit guarantee" ensures that if you the accountholder cancel the authority before money is taken, it will not be permitted to be taken. If it is taken you can look to your bank here in the UK for compensation. If you debit your credit card there is no equivalent guarantee and you can tell your credit card issuer until you are blue in the face not to allow the money to go, but they will still honour the mandate if Paypal so requests, and sue you for the money. You have to get your money back from Paypal and its network of US and Liechtenstein corporations. Good luck. |

11 May 09 - 01:19 PM (#2629098) Subject: RE: BS: Transferring money from the UK to US From: Stilly River Sage Of course PayPal charges to move money--they take their cut from almost everything you can think of doing that involves money. This is the eBay folks were talking about here--nothing is free with them. But it is less than many other methods, and considering that many U.S. banks won't even fool with foreign currency or checks without (in some instances) keeping the entire amount as a transaction fee, you don't have many options. You have to be moving large sums before the bother of having a bank participate is worth considering. SRS |
