15 May 09 - 08:38 AM (#2632468) Subject: RE: BS: Music Heels From: GUEST,leeneia Recently I saw a beautiful young (East) Indian woman dancing a classical dance. One unusual move she did was strike the stage floor with her heels to make a drum sound. My husband and I loved her dance. It had ways to move the body that I had never seen before and never dreamed of. Her dance was part of a preliminary performance by a local dance group. It was shorter but far better than the dull, cold-blooded performance by professional musicians which followed. |

15 May 09 - 09:35 AM (#2632527) Subject: RE: BS: Music Heels From: Azizi It's interesting how social dance movements keep being recycled. Heel/toe is mentioned in this 19th century African American dance song which has very troubling associations: Get first upon your heel, And then upon your toe, And every time you turn around, You jump Jim Crow. -snip- And "The Heel Toe" is the name of a current hip hop dance. Here's a link to a YouTube instructional dance video of the Heel Toe: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2LyXZV477WA |
