There is so much going on in this neck of the woods.....and I thought Folk Music was on a downer.

So many clubs, sessions and Festivals....and now a new Festival to add to the calendar.

What's the story with Swanage? the web site seems to indicate it's on in 2010, but not 2009???

No- that's just the date for next year. All the details for this year are within the links.

A good Festival, esp in good weather.

And don't miss the Church Concerts!

Sounds great,Bob ( Steeple ,I mean !)been there loads when I lived in Dorset--Hope it all goes well, and it sounds too good to miss,but we will have just finished stewarding at Towersey for 5 or 6 days,and then of course it probably clashes with Wallingford Bunkfest,very local for us,and Wareham Wail---could be a bum date !!---I'll check !

Trouble is with these log-in names, I have no idea who anyone is...me, I am the SUNRAY FOLK CLUB- clear to see.

And Roger "whoeveryouare"....I thank you! Seriously.

And yes, the trouble with a new Festival in an already established calendar is that there is really no space.... I did say that to the organiser.

that's a shame! Just when I renewed my enthusiasm for this site.....

but there's always one!

my audience judge whether the club is small or not.

and I will not go into small man syndrome!!!

I was only joking, honest! Absolutely no offence intended.

Please accept my apologies.

Is any one singing "We're all for Swanage" - about the steam railway at the moment? I've sung it about four times this year.

Oh b****r, yes it is the same weekend as the Wail and Dorset Steam Fair
and the Wallingford bunkfest and, less locally, Fylde festival
and the weekend before Swanage festival

Well done,Kitty !! I thought so ----rather a pity,really,but I guess we can't go to ALL the festivals / events that we might wish,and Swanage over two consecutive weekends from Buckinghamshire with a caravan is a bridge too far !Nice to see you at Dick Frost's birthday bash,by the way.

We're All For Swanage (first 2 verses and chorus)

Deep into Dorset there lies a town,
Swanage its name, by the sea it is found.
To its clean beaches led many a trail;
The pretiesat one was the railwa.........y.

From the town station, to Wareham it went,
Trains to Southampton and London it sent;
Bringing back children with buckets in hand,
To play in tne sea, in the sand.

ch:
We're all for Swanage, Corfe Castle too.
Purbeck by rail, there's no finer view.
Follow us now and pray, soon, it will seem;
We're off to Wareham by seam -Yes!
We're off to Wareham by steam.

If anyone would like the full song - let me know via mudcat mail.

One little story around the song: three of us went to an engagement gig for a singer who had been part of our club for many years before she moved away.

The gig was near Clapham Junction station (Britain's busiest main line station), and on the way back the three of us were waiting for our train back when someone mentioned that on this very day the first train from London to Swanage had run though this very station the same morning.

So risking the wrath of station staff we all sang We're All For Swanage across Clapham Junction platforms at full folk singer volume! (We hearlily clapped - by staff and travellers by the way... )
