Sorry Ray, I copied and pasted from an email sent to me by Mark. Blame him for any errors!

No time to check - straight after Shepley - dry out for a day and then Orkney. I do love my weather.

You think Shepley was bad weather - they are only amateurs compared with Orkney!

Well I am not known well enough to be named in this company Dave

I am leading the Yorkshire Garland thingy with Jim Potter and Alma Wright and anyone else who is a Yorkshire singer such as John Greaves

Hope Will and John and Andrew Rogers come too and of course Roger Hinchliffe and Gordon Hoyland (they will be there somewhere I reckon!)

See you there Ray.
The gale on t peak last year was a nightmare for those who camped. My poor little tent took a buffeting through the night, but a number of us are returning this year for another weekend.
The Concertina Discussion promises to be very interesting with the theme "Building up a tune" chaired by Roger Digby with guests Michael Hibbert (Duet),Dave Prebble,Chas Marshall (Anglo's) ,Roy Clinging (English) and myself.Like last year it will be discussion and tune demonstrations.

The weather in Orkney is a bit strange. If you don't like it, there is nor problem it'll change in the next ten minutes anyway.

In fairness Friday was great. Saturday was very rainy. Sunday was mixed. See what I mean?

Just doing a boost and a refresh for the Bradfield weekend. Mark Davies mentioned in passing, in an email, that tickets are still available, and that there are some great guests booked.

And what be could be more fun than catching Alan Day fast asleep and snoring in his little tent, tucked up with his twin Anglos...?

Wish I could be there - but am otherwise engaged in Preston. I second the guests its impossible to hear bit - I'd love to hear Michael Hebbert in action for one thing!! Beware Mr Eyre in bookselling mode - if you're not careful you might end up buying Henry Burstow's Reminiscences of Horsham from him!!!

Dave
I have just picked up a little book called "Irish Melodies" dated 1859 by Thomas Moore Longman Brown & Co size about 4" X 3" Green cover with a Irish Harp on the front and back. Interested? Also The Singing Irish by Dominic Behan 1967
I can bring them both to Bradfield if you are.

Alan

I saw Jim (alone) I did get some stuff - but time has stopped me listening to it so far.

I hope to get it all downloaded today.

I thought that was some of the best unaccompanied singing I have ever heard and Sunday night's informal session was brilliant too. The Irish contingent - two of whom are from West London - were particularly stupendous. Finbarr Wall's song about the couple (a parody of a John Riley ballad) was especially efficacious. And the "band" on Sunday night was a bit special too. Jerry O'Reilly sang "The Green Linnet". That'll do me!

It was nice to hook up with Jim Potter too. After about 40 years!!

Really enjoyed the Yorkshire Garland workshop on Sunday morning as well as Roy Clinging's Cheshire songs. As Dave said this was a real feast of unaccompanied singing, and it was good to hear from some younger singers on Sunday - when they start as young as three you know the tradition is in safe hands!

It would be great to have Diva and Surreysinger join another time - I think the Lucy Broadwood presentation would fit in well.

Thanks to Mark for organising it, and for providing better weather!

Matthew

Glad to hear it went well ... Preston was fun too! But I'm sorry to have missed the likes of Jerry and Finbarr (although I've no doubt at all I shall be singing alongside both in August again!!)

PS Thanks for the vote of confidence in the Lucy show by the way,Matthew - but it's not a one woman thing ... Ralphie of this parish is an equal partner in the process [grins]. I think we'd both love to visit Bradfield at some point in the future ... and who knows by then I might be able to play the Maccann a little better ?? (I'm assuming you've seen the show ... and am now wondering where, and whether I know you in real life!!!)

What a shame that Bradfield had to choose the weekend of Traditions Festival as its new date.

Cuts the customers by half for both festivals as they are both targetting the same audience.

Perhaps next year they might move again???

It also clashed with The Crawley Folk Festival (my local)but I chose Bradfield and had a lovely very long day.

And your presence was duly noted Alan.

I am sure the clash was accidental. But suppose he had had it the week before? That was ECMW. And the week after? Newcastleton Traditional Festival.

Mark the organiser is very much his own man. I know one regular attender who was at "Old Songs" in the USA. Another clash!

Yes I have to say that I was sad it clashed with Traditions ... the audience and possible participants are very much the same. And I would like to attend both!!! Newcastleton Traditional Festival ... errmm, sorry, never heard of it ... where's that? Do tell Dave ?

Thanks ... never heard of the place .. .as it's in Scotland, I wouldn't actually have thought that it would have been much of a competitor in quite the same way as Preston, say, or ECMW. (And sorry Mr Eyre sir, but the answer it's in Newcastleton ain't an answer if you don't indicate where the dickens the place is ... chuckle!!!)

Newcastleton or Copshawholm is situated in the Scottish Borders about 15 miles from Carlisle and 20 miles from Hawick. The Newcastleton Traditional Music Festival has been running since 1970

and we would love to see as many of you who would wish to visit us on the weekend of the 3, 4 and 5 July

Chair

Now Copshawholm I HAVE heard of .

They keep changing the name of the place to fool people :-)

Two songs I know of with the name - Copshawholm Fair of course and there is also a version of the Butcher and the Chambermaid "Copshawholm Butcher" on VOTP sung by Harvey Nicholson. What a great name.

Surreysinger - I haven't yet seen you and Ralph in "Listen And You Shall Hear", but I've heard good things about it and would very much like to see it soon.

Dave - Thanks for the link to Kerfuffle.

Hope that Mark can let us all know the dates for next year, perhaps on here (mudcat) rather than on concertina.net forum, only!

and many thanks to all who continue to follow traditional song in all its many forms!

Cleckheaton, Saddleworth, Warwick, Saltburn, Whitby and Helmsley ffs to come up, to September!

Tired already! and we also have YG Seminar at York on July 20th

I've had an email from him in the last half hour or so in which he says the dates are _likely_ to be 25th - 27th June next year . So it sounds as if that might still be subject to change.(I think he was hoping to finalise things within the week).

Matthew - thanks for the vote of confidence ... at the moment the next outing for the show will be in Birmingham in November ... nothing until then, I'm afraid (unless anyone out there desperately wishes to book it - grin).

Seems I could miss out again. Others nay have a problem as well.
