I've got to write him. Vaughn and I consulted with him on the Older film, and worked with him on several others about regional history. Jack and his wife Helen did some other films of NYS traditional artists. The others, as I recall, were material culture stuff, not music but good. Folklorists grumbled that the Ofields had romanticized Lawrence in this film. He, however, loved it. And now that he's gone, I'm thinking it is probably the best film that was ever done of him...certainly in terms of production quality. Glad it has migrated into the digital world! |
