Well its only 4 days away, anyone else around this year? Again there are 3 teams this year, each will have several guest teams in the evening.

The weather forecast is good, sun all weekend (according to the BBC) and as I finish my job today it is a double celebration.

Give my love to Bampton. Went there yearly from early seventies to mid nineties. Even managed to dance with Arnold's team on the Sunday practice at the George, and Monday eveningt when guesting with the Blackheath/Earls veterans that guested a few times. Loved it. Sad about all the ex pubs, Eagle, George, Jubilee, Elephant... all gone, in the name of progress?

All gone to the profitable residential property market! 2 of them in my drinking lifetime. Hopefully things will balance out at 4 though.

Well I just hope that the weather forecast is correct - last year was very wet and we had to abandon a rain soaked tent for hotel - (but it was very handy for the 'Horseshoes'!) Can't make Saturday this year - but will undoubtedly be playing in the 'Horseshoes' from Sunday onwards

My favourite weekend of the year. Time to get baking! I'll be in Bampton from Friday night. See you there!

I for one would love to be there - But I have to be at The Marlboro Morris Ale in Vermont - what a sacrifice!
Hope you all have a great time.

Which Bampton are we talking about, before I ask if The Talbot is still there ??In the Bush, or the one in Devon ??

Yes, and the Talbot is one of the remaining four.

I used to live in nearby Carterton,my Dad lived in Bampton. We used to drink in the Talbot---the pub was run by Jim and Margaret Blain in those days ( 1965).Jim was an alky nutter, but a very nice one ! I had many a "lock-in" there .I knew Arnold,of course, and his wife--they lived in Honeymoon Cottage in the village. Frank Purslow lived there too,and often played his concertina in the local pubs. There was another pub almost opposite The Talbot, but down the road a bit,but I can't remember the name of it! The Spajers (Society for the Preservation of Ancient Junketing) were based there, and the Landlord, another nutter, was called, appropriately,Maurice !!There was a folk-club,in the pub on the right after you turn left out of the village on the Brize Norton road, opposite the manor house---the Countess of Munster used to live there.(in the manor house !!).All the TBMD side went to the folk club ,when I went back there to live in 1974-76,and we had great times ---Happy days !

The first pub you mention is still there and is called the Horseshoes, the second might be the George (late) except 'right ' and 'left' are hopeless directions unless you specify your original starting point and where you are facing.

Well, put it this way----if you came into Bampton from Brize Norton, the pub where we used to have the folk -club was on the left as you entered the village!

I shall see you there from Sunday aft., Mr Hunt. Save some seats for two fiddles and a cello if you'd be so kind.

Got that, Bubblyrat, just not sure what the Brize Norton Road is, as I never travelled that way. Would be helped with a starting point from within the town, though my guess is still The George.
