Anyone else suffering from a local MP with their snout in the trough. Or maybe yours is as clean as a whistle and very rare at that.

I'm sorry to say our's is the lovelly Julie Kirkbride.

Well she was this morning - who knows, she may have already gone.

Nothing like that here in Texas. But it's only 12:53 in the afternoon. The day is still young.

Canada is more inclined to have bears with their snout in the trout.

I would wager that the trough in Brussells is a lot deeper than the one in the UK.

We don't have MPs here, but our local city council is mostly made up of people in the real estate business, each of whom is in major conflict of interest just about every time they vote on a local matter.

Yes, in the UK that is referred to as "T. Dan Smith".

"I would wager that the trough in Brussells is a lot deeper..."

Nothing would feed there if it were filled with Brussels sprouts.

And all this time I thought "You Gotta Have Heart" was about a baseball team.

Baby brussel sprouts cooked with white pepper, thyme and butter until the water is nigh about evaporated, is good company for lamb or very young pig.
Always served at Xmas dinner to please an English friend.

Not the subject of this thread, you say?

At least you don't have to bop Brussels sprouts on the head before you cook 'em.

It could be worth going to visit the EU parliament just to bop a few brussels sprouts on the head.

From this side of the pond, it does seem that the EU is being led by a bunch of vegetables. Half-boiled at that.

Yes, it seems that the English have gone from "lion-hearted" to "artichoke-hearted" is just a few generations.

Brussels sprouts should only be steamed, never boiled.

Carol C, true for most other vegetables as well (or woked) but I have found my method yields tender b. s. with a touch of butter-thyme-pepper coating. The water should be just enough to cook them with only a bit of sauce left, no water to pour off. (Has to be watched closely).

I'm glad I started this one, I thought I was the only person who liked sprouts.

You've all made me feel much happier.

"Brussels sprouts should only be steamed, never boiled"

Or quartered and sauteed with chunks of bacon...

Err, shredded and saute'ed in butter? That's if you can risk losing a finger or two... Plus cooked chestnuts.
They should only be bought on the stalk, and never cooked from frozen, OR eaten at grandma's house (they should instead be fed secretly to the dog, to punish grandma later when you've all gone home).

Far too much interest being shown in troughs - and that's how it starts. Spleen will want a second seat in the Beech with a Moat and a Duck Island next!

L in C
I was going to say - Snout in the Timothy Taylor Landlord - but you can see how these things can be so easily misunderstood.

I think the landlady would beat me to a pulp if I got my snout anywhere near... No! Enough said already!

I think a moat would be good. Maybe we could have the staff divert the Mersey. Dave might have something to say about that though...

Some of the stranger claims have been for manure, cat food, jellied eels, ginger nuts and an edible Father Christmas. Just imagine the sort of pagan celebratory remnants we could reinvigorate at the Beech with a set of props like those... The mind flickers.

SHE'S GONE - or going at least.

We cant grow sprouts because we have sandy soil and if when the plants are tall they rock about in the wind the little sproutie things do not develope on the stem/trunk. Well that's what he told me, but he doesnt like sprouts so it could just be a lie.

Anyone like to be an MP for Bromsgrove, there's going to be a vacancy soon ????
