It was getting slow for a while, but it turned out I needed to download and install the latest version. The version I was using had become obsolete, and wasn't working properly or very fast. Now that I have the latest version installed, it's working faster than any other browser for me (the others I've used are Explorer, Safari for Windows, and Google Chrome). I've partially solved the problem of Explorer being too slow by downloading a Firefox add-on that lets me open Explorer in a Firefox tab. It's a really great add-on. Download IE Tab add-on |

If you have multiple tabs open, or many 'sessions' saved, or a very long 'history' in Mudcat....etc., it can take awhile. My Opera loads slower than Firefox, because I have asked it to load with stuff I looked at days or weeks ago. If it gets too slow, I turn most of those tabs into bookmarks and close the tabs. If a browser merely runs slowly, as in slow to load pages, it is harder to figure out. Perhaps it is sorting out cookies and javascripts, depending on where you are surfing. But there should be only minor differences between the major browsers in loading time and surfing time.....it is unlikely to be a flaw in the browser. The only way to diagnose the situation would be to review your setting and browsing habits. But...if you want a really, really fast browser, try K-Meleon ( |

Mine was set at "Keep my history for at least *90* days." I changed it to 5 days. Firefox worked fine for me at first and gradually got slower. I eventually figured it was because I had an enormous cache. Firefox has to load this cache into memory each time you start Firefox. Then it has to update it with a new URL each time you view a new page. Then, for each link on the new page, it has to scan its own list to find matching URLs, so it knows whether to display the link in blue or pink. I guess this can take a long time. Let me know if this works. |

I also use Firefox (not sure which version - I haven't updated it recently) in Windows with no problems so far. The Windows (WinXP, SP3) version takes a little longer to load than the Linux version, but once loaded both seem about the same. I have found the IE tab very useful for testing updates to my website as well as for viewing "IE Specific" sites. It's a pity it isn't available for the Linux version. |
