Okay, I'll play.

I have no idea what the hell a fliptop can opener is, but I dearly love my Pampered Chef Smooth-Edge Can Opener. It doesn't cut through the lid of the can. It cuts through the side of the crimp that holds the lid onto the can. It leaves no sharp edges for you to slice your finger on and you can even put the lid back on the can after opening. Also, the cutting wheel never touches the food, so it doesn't get all gunky like most can openers do. When I got it as a gift I sorta went "What the fuck?" but I'm now officially in love with it.

Simple minds, simple pleasures...

Open Mike, sounds like that old can opener that left ragged, sharp edges when the can was opened.

Bee..., I have the same design, don't remember who made it. It's great. Hadn't cut myself in ages, until-
Campbell's soups and some others have a ring exposed at the top, and the lid peels back when one pulls on it. The lid is sharp and- bloody soup.

I automatically visualized the thread was about the military

It flips and it opens the top of cans (it is small and never needs electricity) Sincerely,
