We are at the early stages of organising a probable trip to British Columbia mid July to mid August next year. We have a couple of offers for gigs not to far from vancouver but wondered if there are more possible opportunities for music making while we are there.

We're interested in playing some gigs but also just to make contact with other singers and musicians so pointers to song circles/ open mics / festivals/ sessions..... anything really would be gtreat!

If you would like to hear a sample of what we do have a listen to Wendy's Myspace at: http://www.myspace.com/wendyarrowsmith . She is a regular guest at UK folk clubs, festivals etc.

We will have our children with us (who will be aged 9 & 10 by then.... time flies!) so we do need to bear that in mind.

Any help or pointers gratefully received.

Thanks

Paul & Wendy

The 3rd Annual Princeton Traditional Music Festival will take place the weekend of 20-22 August. It's a free festival (unpaid - though we provide food, accommodation and some help with travel $$) and will present about 150 trad performers, mostly from the Northwest, but others are welcome to apply.

Princeton is a little ex-mining town (pop 3,000ish) 3 hrs E of Vancouver in the mountains. The road is exceptionally beautiful tho somewhat scary to newcomers, though more in winter!

The landscape is open hills with bunches of trees - ideal horse country. The town is at the junction of two rivers which is useful because it can be quite hot in the summer. Have a boo at our website http://princetonfestival.wordpress.com/ for last year's performers and a fine painting of what we see when we look out the window.

You say July to mid-August: let us know if you could extend to our weekend, because we'd be glad to have you!

Thanks Jon,

We're not completely fixed on when we are travelling yet. We will be there for 3-4 weeks and really we're just trying to find out what gigs are potentially available and anything else of interest that is happening.

We're not looking for gigs every night as we want some time to enjoy the stunning scenery and catch up with a few people as well.

We'd definitely be interested in your festival Jon if the timing fits.

I'll be in touch.

Thanks again.

Paul

Hi Paul

I live in Sooke near Victoria on Vancouver Island, a 2 hour ferry ride from Vancouver. There are many places to play here on the Island. I just had my old friend Bruce Murdoch here in April.

Check out these websites. The Victoria Folk Music Society's site has a list of folk events and venues here on the Island. It's a beautiful place to visit.

If you PM me I'll provide my contact info.

Cheers
