More Clementine verses??

Hi all -

My father "collects" verses to songs; Clementine being, for some reason, among his favorites to stretch out. We have all the verses/versions in the database (including the ones we CAN'T sing in front of Mom), and several others. I was hoping that some of you had some more "obscure" verses that I can sing at their 50th wedding anniversary next week. It would be a great gift.

Thanks -

The only one I could remember (Not in the DT) is:

How I missed her, how I missed her,
How I missed my Clementine,
'Till I kissed her little sister,
Now I don't miss Clementine!

People also fool around with singing Clementine to different tunes. If you are interested, we can give you a list. Dick is better at this than I am. I remember Babylon is Fallen and something classical, offhand.

I've heard about a hundred verses to "Oh Suzanna"

Here's my favorite:

Oh I had a little chicken
and it wouldn't lay an egg
So I poured some boiled water
up and down that chicken's leg

The chicken screeched; the chicken squawked
And then to my suprise
That chicken laid a hard boiled egg
Right before my eyes!

Oh, Suzanna...

Now I know that wasn't Clementine, but I couldn't resist. And after all, you were asking about extra verses. Does anybody have the verse about the mule who kicks himself to death?

Here's the complete version of the song as printed in "The New Song Fest":

MY DARLING CLEMENTINE

In a cavern, in a canyon, excavating for a mine,
Dwelt a miner, forty-niner, and his daughter, Clementine.

(chorus)
Oh my darling, oh my darling, oh my darling Clementine,
You are lost and gone forever, dreadful sorry, Clementine.

Light she was, and like a fairy, and her shoes were number nine,
Herring boxes without topses, sandals were for Clementine.

Drove she ducklings to the water every morning just at nine,
Hit her foot agains a splinter, fell into the foaming brine.

Ruby lips above the water, blowing bubbles soft and fine,
Alas for me! I was no swimmer, so I lost my Clementine.

In a churchyard near the canyon, where the myrtle doth entwine,
There grow roses and other posies, fertilized by Clementine,

Then the miner, forty-niner, soon began to peak and pine;
Thought he oughter jine his daughter--now he's with his Clementine.

In my dreams she still doth haunt me, robed in garments soaked in brine,
Though in life I used to hug her, now she's dead I draw the line.

Now ye Boy Scouts, heed the warning to this tragic tale of mine;
Artificial respiration would have saved my Clementine.

How I missed her, how I missed her, how I missed my Clementine,
Til I kissed her little sister, and forgot my Clementine.

I've heard Clementine sung to "Guide Me O, Thou Great Jehovah", "Ode To Joy" (Beethoven) and one of Henry Clay Works songs, I forget which one.
I like the first, myself. Improves two songs. We had a thread recently on scurrulous verses to Clementine. Try the Forum Search.
Blessings,
Barbara

The words also fit the melody of "Ode to Joy"

Thanks, folks.

With a little "tweaking", I can also use the tune from Clementine to sing "Puff the Magic Dragon" - which my father HATES! Did that already, though.

Maybe we've already got 'em all and I'll need to MAKE UP some more!
