17 Jun 09 - 11:53 AM (#2658625) Subject: Singing together From: SunrayFC I remember with fondness the large wooden encased radio that was wheeled out once a week for our lesson on singing (folk music). I wish I had kept those A5 booklets. Looking back i wish I had made more of those times. And the songs are good to this day. Anyone else recall those moments??? Anyone have any booklets? |

18 Jun 09 - 03:25 AM (#2659183) Subject: RE: Singing together From: SunrayFC And we sat staring at the huge radio, as if we could see the singers. But we were young and that was the latest technology then. |

02 Nov 16 - 01:10 PM (#3817719) Subject: RE: Singing together From: Nigel Parsons Lots of these booklets still appear regularly on EBay UK. Often at reasonable prices (£2.00 to £4.00) but there are also rip-off merchants who will aim for much higher prices. Any I list (with accurate descriptions) are just surplus ones I've bought as part of a job lot to help complete my collection. A list of the contents of most of these booklets can be seen Here Cheers Nigel |

02 Nov 16 - 01:52 PM (#3817734) Subject: RE: Singing together From: Senoufou From the sixties onwards I used to teach in primary schools in Scotland and later in Norfolk. 'Singing Together' was the highlight of my week (and of the pupils) I used to have a practice session in between broadcasts, on an old piano which the stronger boys would trundle into our classroom. We all loved the pamphlets, and getting a new one each term was a real pleasure. I must say the songs were very varied, from many parts of the world, and from different centuries. (For instance, 'Sumer Is Acumin In') Excellent and worthwhile programme. You will find on this site the sources for obtaining old copies etc. |
02 Nov 16 - 02:40 PM (#3817744) Subject: RE: Singing together From: Joe_F My elementary school (California, 1940s) had a remarkably effective method of teaching children songs. It consisted in playing 78s that were so old & worn that the words were almost unintelligible. The teacher would start the record, and if you thought you understood a word or phrase, you raised your hand and suggested it. If you were right, the teacher wrote it on the blackboard. After the record had been played enough times for the whole song to be guessed, everybody had learned it. |
