BS: Married 40 years!

Greetings:

Happy anniversary to us!

Marilyn Levine and I were married June 22, 1969, in the backyard of her parents' house in Babylon, Long Island, New York. There is not much more to say other than we hope to be around to celebrate in another 40 years, at which time we will both be 102 years old.

You can see a picture from our wedding at this page. Farther down the page there is a photo taken of us just two years ago.

My song The October Waltz tells the story of how we met at the Washington Square Methodist Church in New York City just about eight months earlier. Click here to listen to the song on-line or to download it for free. What two Jewish people were doing in church is a long story, too long to tell here. Suffice to say it had something to do with the anti-war movement.

Marilyn and I are now off to take our morning walk.

36 years this coming October. We're catching up to you and in just five years we'll be married longer than you have.

Good to hear of so many long marriages. We reach 50 years on 22 August. Somehow I doubt we'll manage another 50.

Anne's had her morning swim and I've had my bike ride. We're together weeding the border this afternoon.

41 and a half. The first year was GReaaatte! How she's put up with the other forty is beyond me. (ka ching) But we persevere as we head into that euphemistic sunset hand in hand.

Anyway, congrats to Steve and Marilyn...and to all of us who really believe those words we said so long ago to someone we could mean them for.

Married for 44 years 2 months and 20 days today.

But we were an item for six years and five months exactly before that.

So we've been together for 50 years 7 months and 20 days.

We can still make each other laugh, or cry, or rage, but it doesn't ever change what we feel for each other, and she's still the girl I noticed at the skating rink all those years ago, and said to myself "I'm going to marry her".

Within twenty four hours of that meeting I had proposed and been ACCEPTED (to this day I don't know why she said yes). Neither does she, I think.

Yeh, Don, I noticed the legs on figure-skaters, too. My wife was one once.

Where does the time go?

We haven't made that yet - got to 33 years this year, 35 if you count the two years living together first.

Himself always tells people he married me for my cooking, and the fact that I was nine months pregnant had nothing whatsoever to do with it!

Congratulations!

Tom and I will be married 27 years on Friday, but we met late, having each had a ten-year "apprenticeship" married to someone else.

I hope we all have many more years with our spouse/life companion/best friend!

The Mother of All Surprises happened just before our 40th anniversary party this past Monday. As we were loading up our car to take stuff to the hall where we were holding the affair, Marilyn's sister Naomi showed up unannounced and unexpected. Naomi lives in the artists village of Ein Hod in the Carmel Mountains, a few kilometers south of Haifa, Israel.
