Wareham I? - Wareham Wail 4th - 6th September

27 Jun 09 - 07:03 AM (#2665821)
Subject: Wareham I?
From: Morticia

It's time to count yourself in to another lovely weekend of singing, jollity and rum and shrub, not necessarily in that order.

Wareham Wail 4th - 6th September

http://www.wail.org.uk/index.php

Come and join in the singing with some of the country's finest traditional singers, all hand picked from folk clubs and festivals around the country, some well-known, some not heard of, but all of a high standard.Everything on one site: move from sing to sing. Campsite, Bed & Breakfast and food tents all within easy reach.

Come and join us, you know it makes sense.

IF you can face a WHOLE weekend of ( Albeit usually pretty good ) singing with NO (or MINIMAL) instruments , its a good weekend !
I will take my collection of Instruments elsewhere again .

And WHO said "GOOD" ?? LOL

I along with 2 of my sisters and one friend will be there this year. It is my first visit although the others are regulars. I am coming over from Ireland.

Tried to book on the internet but it will not let me complete the form. Do I wait or send cheque by snail mail or what do you suggest?

My sisters are Beryl Bennett and Carole Atkinson and the friend is Ron Jackson.

I have a rather large camper (some 6.5 metres long and 2.5 metres wide and Beryl needs electricity because of sleep apneoa. I here you have experienced this before but Carole suggests that I give plenty of warning about the size of my camper.

Really looking forward to ths event.

That makes 9 now if I count correctly. Enough to have a whale of a time I think.

Hi George, the booking form should be up in the next week or so to book directly online. I will try to keep everyone posted on that. Size of camper should not be a problem but I am not sure about electricity. I will have a word with one or two peoples and get back to you.

Booking is now open for this year's Wail (formerly Wareham Wail). Full details
are available at the Wail website http://www.wail.org.uk/

You can book your tickets online and there are now 2 ways to pay - either by
BACS transfer or by sending a cheque in the post as before. (For the diehard
traditionalists, you can still download the booking form from the website and
fill it out by hand). If you're on the mailing list, you should also receive a
leaflet and booking form by email.

In summary, the details are:
Dates: September 4th - 6th (weekend after the Bank Holiday)
Location: Oakfield Farm, Verwood BH31 6JJ (same as the last few years)
Cost: £20 before August 23rd, £25 afterwards (under-16s free)
Meal tickets: adults £14, under-14s £8

Cheques payable to "Wareham Wail". Send to:
Wareham Wail Code D
10 Old Wareham Road
Parkstone
Poole
Dorset
BH12 4QR
(Please include your email address, names for the tickets and an S.A.E. if you
don't book online)

I haven't yet had time to add last year's photos and piggy-songs to the web
site, but I hope to do that in the next week or so. Last year the MBS table
was beaten to the pig's head by the Celtic Songwriters - we can't let that
happen again!

Alas, I won't be able to make it over for reasons medical and financial, but I'll be there in spirit. A wonderful time and highly recommended! I'll come back someday without the sore throat and with a lot of new songs to try out on you. Maybe not as Jack's guardian this time, though, but I hope the rascal makes it there this year.

And someone please eventually tell me of the fate of this year's boar's head.

Severn - we'll drink a toast to you. We might even sing a song about the toasted Severn Bore (boar?)when we've worked out in which direction the tide is flowing, and if you don't consider that to be in appallingly bad toast.

Kitty

PS Jack was looking alarmingly respectable at Sidmouth. I think he might just be biding his time.

As a Corpus Crispy, I could say I've been toasted enough already, but I won't, and I'll cherish the rememberance instead. I don't mind the Severn Bore references, as I like to keep current.

Range of motion is coming back through daily PT torture (torcher?) stretches and the compression shirts are hot itchy and painful, but I'll grin this one down like I did the cancer and the diabetes. I have to regain a longer shelf-life to travel and camp. That and find some money that the docs forgot to ask for. But I'll be back.

It was good fun, my annual foray into wearing a proper dress was reasonably successful - I managed to get both into and out of it without assistance... the banquet was yummy and the singing fabulous.

Sorry I didn't get to help with the breakfasts or anything, but after the wasp sting at Towersey and the RSI in my right hand, I'm not too good at gripping things (except gin bottles!) so thought discretion was the better part of wossname.

Thank you everyone who made it possible.

Huge thanks to Alan and the team, and to all the singers who came and sang. The song sessions and the banquet food and entertainments were all brilliant. And while it was a shame that many old friends were unable to attend this year, the new dignitaries on the top table acquitted themselves magnificently - thank you Les and Carys Sullivan, Dave Earl, Allan Clarke, Kevin and Lucy Burrow. Also thanks to one of our Wail virgins, George Henderson, for making the trek from Ireland and singing some splendid songs - hope you enjoyed the craic!

We also sang to remember Johnny Collins yesterday from 5 to 5.30pm, and Alan scattered some ashes from an English oak.

The standard of singing was extremely high. The choruses and harmonies magnificent and the food was excellent. The beer was even better and I have to tell everone that I had a ball. Can't guarantee making that trek very often It was ever such a long way but if I can work it into a holiday I will get there again.

How such magnificent catering can be done for so little money is amazing. The weekend is tremendous value and I will be recommending it to my friends on this side of the water.

Thank you all for yoru hospitality with paricular thanks to Alan for the hook up facility.
