28 Jun 09 - 02:34 PM (#2666589) Subject: BS: Pimms No 1 gin sling From: Richard Bridge A hot English summer! Surely we must Pimm. The classic recipe is one measure of Pimms No 1, two measures of lemonade, one slice of lemon (round), one of orange, one of cucumber, a sprig of mint and maybe a couple of loose mint leaves, served over ice in a tumbler. For today's sophisticated palates, I was wondering about reducing the sweetness and amount of the lemonade - or using something more sour and less sweet than say Schweppes or R. Whites. Mabe leave the mint out of the glass, but make a really sour and tangy lemonade by blending 4 lemons and a big handful of lemon mint, then putting it in a heatproof jug, pouring boiling water over it then straining and popping in the fridge (or freezer if impatient) to get cold. This however will be a still lemonade (as well as very sour). Thoughts? |

Sit on the porch and enjoy over a lazy afternoon. Or Equal parts frozen lemonade and Bourbon. Run it through a blender. Drink it from a glass. |

29 Jun 09 - 05:22 AM (#2666928) Subject: RE: BS: Pimms No 1 gin sling From: Cats Pimms is the only drink for the English summer. Try making it with Ginger Beer instead of lemonade. Best served in pint glasses with lots of fruit in it [remember this is part of your 5 a day] and lots of ice. Another pint Eyelander? |

29 Jun 09 - 01:01 PM (#2667222) Subject: RE: BS: Pimms No 1 gin sling From: Cats RB, the ginger beer doesn't taste like ginger beer when it is in Pimms, you just don't get an overly sweet taste and a slight tinge of spice. You can also try tonic water. It has to be one of the best ways of getting some of your 5 a day |
