Hardraw Gathering 2009

Big thanks to Mr Happy for putting the link up on Mudcat for this year's 'gather'.
I've taken the liberty of creating a fresh thread as the
previous one was for 2008 really and had too many (now) irrelevant posts on it.

It's a mostly a 'participant-based' weekend - sessions, dancing,
songarounds and some concerts - all for FREE!
Only the 'main evening' concert on the Fri & Sat
has a small charge on the door.

New facilities on site this year - new venue (end of car park
- on way to Waterfall) includes toilets and a shower block, I'm told!
Reet handy for the camping!

Come all ye......

What are the arrangements for camping?

Click the link on the first post, Soldier Boy!
There's a campsite on the Pub grounds (with some new facilities
for this year!)
and a larger site one minute walk away, next door.

I'm a mere performer - not an organiser - but I'm sure a google of campsites for Hardraw or Hawes (a mile away) will find more things for you.

Unless some kind bod that knows more, posts on here.....
Cheers!

Good to know they've got proper facilities this time on the campsite.

Last time we went there were some most unsavoury portaloos & no water supply other than in the pub.

Remember trying to fill me large waterbottle from a kitchen sink filled with dirty dishes & pint glasses! AAArrrrrrrrgggggghh

Oops pressed button too soon.

Meant to add, you can always get a refreshing shower under the Hardraw Force waterfall!!

Don't think I'm doing the 3 peaks that weekend this year, so should be able to leap around more this year. Have been a little stiff and sore the past 2 years after coming over straight after doing the walk.
Hope the midges aren't as bad as they were at Dent t'other week.

Originally planned to go but coincided with only week we could take our midsummer holiday. Should be great!

Ey up Muppett, after the sterling job you did as MC at Dent they'll probably call upon your services up front. Different class of midge at Hardraw and a very large cold shower to dive under if they are really driving you mad!
Hope to see you there.

I notice that the pub doesn't allow caravans, or take bookings. If anyone's interested, the site next door (behind the tea shop)does both. The phone number is 01969 667691.

Had great time watching a group of Girl Guides arrive and put up about four tents. Then they made an evening meal and sat around with their belongings scatered about.

Have I turned into a dirty old man NO! I was awaiting the arrival of the Hardraw Midgy population. It was well worth delaying my apearance at the Pub. Sitting in saftey in my Caravan waiting for the attack of the midgy army on the Girls. Best laugh of the weekend when they arrived.:-))

Must be something in musicians blood that the midges don't fancy, or static from the PA!!!

Just a few days to go to this one....

Mostly participant - mostly free!
Two evening indoor events have a small charge...
I believe Alan Taylor is main artist
(among many) at the Sat eve one.

But the rest of the w/e is all about singing and dancing for free!

Beautiful setting - grand beer!
See y' there!

Can't make it this year as it clashes with our booking at Scarborough Seafest.

Had a great time last year both in the sessions and playing at "The Concert".

I hope the midges are friendly and eveyone has a good time.

Just a note of caution, we had some real problems with the camping at the pub when we up there for a charity weekend earlier in the year. The pub staff were not helpful..... and were definiyely not keen to open the gate to the camp site. Quite a few people ended up carrying all their gear from the pub car park up to the camp site. Hopefully this has all been sorted for The Gathering? Or just stay next door as The Leveller suggests (this site does not take dogs though).

Back to the top we go!.

Looking forward to finally getting to meet up with you again Mr & Mrs Leveller - unless something untoward happens between now and Friday 2.30pm - I'll be there!.

As a change, I'm taking part in David Burbidge's Hardraw Harmony at the hostel down the road - which means I get to see more of the Slovene Male Voice Choir. Maybe I can join them as I sing tenor?!.

Counting down the hours - please can Steve double-check he's got the sunshine booked?.

Hey, that's good news Deidre, look forward to seeing you again. Weather's not looking too bad at the moment, but who knows? It was forecast to rain at Moonbeams but we got a day of uninterrupted sunshine. Fingers crossed!

Great weekend, thanks to Steve and his band of merry men for all their hard work.

More of the same / similar next year please (except we could do with the sunshine lasting a little longer :-))

It was a great weekend and fantastic to meet up with such lovely friends again.

Couple of minor(ish) gripes: the camp site behind the tea rooms is NOT suitable for caravans. We tore a hole in the side trying to get through a narrow gateway in the mud (the caravan now looks even more disreputable and might not survive the season) then today we got totally stuck trying to get out and had to be pulled out by a lovely guy with a four-wheel drive. The other gripe is the prices in the Green Dragon - outrageous!

Apart from that it was truly excellent.

Eeee, theleveller, I did warn you in an earlier posting about the beer prices.

A grand weekend despite the beer prices, had a good dip in the waterfall Saturday morning and it were grand to meet up with folk again, some of who I not seen since Saddleworth last weekend.
Start saving up now for next part of me come back tour, see you all in Whitby at some stage of the week.

You did indeed warn me, muppett!. It wouldn't have been so bad if I hadn't been forced to drink so much expensive beer on Friday night with the lovely Pat and Dick Hobson etc. 'Twas a good weekend, though. Roll on Cropton - have to put a big plaster on the caravan.

Couldn't understand why people were queuing 6 deep at the bar to pay £ 3.20 a pint in a glass when all you had to do was go to the outside bar at the back door and excellent real ales were instantly available at £ 2.50 (in plastic). I thought us Yorkshire folk had that "savvy" for saving a few bob???
Great day Saturday wannit??
