I haven't seen one, here, for quite a while, but life can't be that easy.
The object of this quiz is to identify a person (real or fictional) or thing. The trick is that in the each word of an answer starts with the same letter: e.g. Hollywood blonde bombshell = Marilyn Monroe. I have, in some cases, introduced a punny clue to help (or perhaps hinder) you.

As per usual, please don't blurt out the answer on the thread. PM me with your answers. I'll post the answers anon...whenever that is.

1) Perhaps the most influential American gossip monger of his (or any?) day. He was untouchable.
2) Underneath all that dirt, she was the most beeyootiful Dogpatcher of them all. Eat your heart out Daisy Mae!
3) Life mate of the world's oldest comic strip detective.
4) This mobster's death wasn't a close shave.
5) This real-life cop became an actor who played mostly cops in movies, getting his start in a film which portrayed his real-life exploits.
6) Comic actress and radio personality; sort of a Gracie Allen type.
7) He was part of a long time vaudeville (music hall to you Brits) team. All heck broke loose when they performed their greatest show.
8) The greatest Amazon of them all…in four colors.
9) He sang with Redheads…and that's no lie.
10) She ain't no lady, but she sure is explosive.
11) Alter ego of this super arachnid.
12) The great escape-ist.
13) This mobster was fortunate to only be deported.
14) "America's Fightin' Cowboy"…not to be confused with "The King of the Cowboys".
15) Gossip biographer of the stars and famous…didn't like it when she was between the covers.
16) How are you doing…respond in a Runyonesque way.
17) Funny silent film star, but he wasn't a tramp.
18) "Yankee Doodle Boy" who went to London.
19) The prettiest wrestler in the 1950's…if he did say so himself,
20) Did this singer dent his car? Or his guitar?
21) The English answer to la Monroe.
22) He kept the kids out of the pool…hall that is.
23) A one hit wonder of the 1950s, he sang bloody well.
24) He was L'il Abner's ideel, a cop who looked like swiss cheese.
25) With his musical name, he was a natural for the stage.

Have had a few responses, but not a lot of correct answers. Some answers given could seem to be correct...except they don't take the clues into consideration; this is especially true for 14 & 17.
To clarify 15...this person was not a gossip columnist, but wrote several biographies which were mostly gossip.

This seems to be a little harder than I anticipated, but that may be because most are quite old--as am I--and some out of main stream consciousness in this century.

Here are the double initials I had in mind, and which the clues point to:

1) Perhaps the most influential American gossip monger of his (or any?) day. He was untouchable. WW

By my tally you omitted or were incorrect on #s 6,9,10,14,18,& 23. Have I erred?

This is the moment a few of you have been waiting for, but first some comments.

I was happy to see that there were so many questions answered correctly. Many of these folks or things were pretty esoteric, to say nothing of old. And they were very Amerocentric. The only question which nobody got was #6, so there must be some awesome trivia buffs out there.

Seamus Kennedy had an outstanding 19 answers correct, followed by SINSULL with, I think, 14.

Sorry SINSULL, blonde bombshell is a discriptor not a name, see my original post wherein I use it as such. As umpire in chief, as well as quiz creator, I rule against your protest.

However, you are correct that you got 16 winning answers...I had forgotten the exact number, when I posted. Chalk it up to old age or that I was rigging the quiz against you, but I do humbly apologize. (Well not really humbly.)
