I am sure I recollect precedent in which all Puffins were obliged to be delivered up to the holders of Penguin rights.

It was actually about ASDA chocolate biscuits but I am sure the same principles apply to stuffed birds as to stuffing yourself with biscuits.

I urge the immediate commencement of litigation.

Oh, and while we're at it we can also demand the return of Bishop Gundulf's apostrophe, also apparently wrongfully removed.

I don't know the Bishops gundulfs penguin, but used to have a lot of annoyance from people who thought it was funny to remove the duck from my tankard and threaten it's safety.
The one thing it never was, is funny.
Wishing penguin a safe, early return.
Quack!
Geoff the Duck.

Thread drift maybe, but some else started it!

My sister visited the Farne Islands last year and found the 'gift shop' person in near-despair having had to cope with the previous customer who had just seen penguins on the Farnes, not puffins, and he knew the difference and how should anyone dare to contradict him ...

Alaska has lots of puffins but not a single penguin.

But even the eagle-eyed Sarah can't see penguins from her house.

has anyone else been emailing back or is it just me being a nutter?

he does look like a puffin but that is only because his parents were of mixed species.i would be confused if my mum was a penguine and my daddy was a puffin.

what is important is the he has a good heart and (weeping now) i will never hold him in my arms again.

please help me help him!!!??????

i will be in your debt forever if you can free him from his hell.

"Sense of humour failure I see! "

These little things are a bit like Rhyming Slang.. it's clever & funny IF you are 'in' on the joke & routine from the beginning.
If you wish others to share the 'humor', it requires a bit of background.

You will find it helpful to examine the thread "Free the Lower Stoke One", and the thread "P_P_P_Pick up a Penguin.

Inspired by the first, the second and this are largely bandinage between two morris sides.

Does that assist?

You may also want to ask where the Penguin went, and who from another tribe want to go there too...

DMcG - The Farne Island story might be excused if the visitor was from France.
In France the Southern Hemisphere penguin is called a Manchot.
They also have birds named Pingouin which refers to Nortern Hemisphere birds of the Auk family. See in French Alca torda - Petit pingouin and compare it with in English http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alca torda - Razorbill.
Quack!
GtD.
