At the Saddleworth Folk Festival this weekend a fair number of my folkie friends were talking about The Cropton Folk and Roots festival which takes place from 7 to 9 August 2009.

Apparently there is an interesting line up of artists booked and a weekend ticket costs £20 and camping costs £5 per person for the whole weekend so that's just £25 in total. That sounds like EXTREMELY good value to me!

I can't remember the name of the pub but I know that I called in there a few years ago on my way back from Whitby.
When you are travelling south from Whitby to Pickering you turn right at the roundabout in Pickering and it's a few miles or so on the left;presumably in a village called Cropton.

I remember a large public house with loads of space, which I think had a micro brewery in its grounds (The Cropton Brewery).
Their real ale was absolutely superb and the food menu looked pretty special as well.

It's in a beautiful country setting and has lovely gardens and an orchard surrounding it.
It seems that the camp site for the festival is in the orchard.
So that sounds good too.

So I am seeking more information about this festival because from what I have heard so far it sounds like it is too good to miss.

what do you know about it? I would like to hear more about this festival which I think is a new festival in the calendar, but I might be wrong.

But it really does sound interesting so I hope you will spread the word about this festival among your folkie buddies and if you know anything about it let us know here.

I have just read through my posting here and it sounds like I am a secret mole sent to promote this festival big time, but I'm not, honest! I've just heard about this festival and it sounds good to me - but a good few free pints from the landlord by way of thanks would'nt go amiss!

Cheers.

Chris

It is intersting. But of course at this time of year you are bound to clash with other festivals!
For northerners in a credit crunch, don't waste your your pennies on a long haul down south to Sidmouth, come to Cropton instead.
I'm sure it will be worth it.

It's going to be great, as was Ryedale this year and last and Roots North in Northallerton last year. Fantastic line-up and, as you say, a beautiful setting (and, yes, the Cropton Brewery which produces excellent beer). We've more of less stopped going to the big festivals in favour of these smaller local ones which we've found to be more enjoyable.

Hope to see you there - come and say hello (ours is the scruffy caravan with the Whipstaff flag).

Sorry Pip Radish and Banjiman, did'nt know a thread had already been started for Cropton. I trawled through 14 days of postings and found nowt and thought this cosy little festival deserved a mention.
