OZ Catters in Melbourne ?

I have just today waved farewell at the airport to a dear friend of mine, Fiona Ross, a lovely lady who also happens to be a brilliant singer with a vast repertoire of traditional songs of all types, Scottish in particular. I had the pleasure of accompanying her from time to time over the years, and it was always a joy to play for her.

She is bound for Melbourne, for the foreseeable future, and I was just wondering if any Catters in Melbourne could offer any advice regarding sessions, singarounds etc.

I have Googled "folk music melbourne" and it would appear that the Melbourne Folk Club aka Folk Victoria would seem to be somewhere she should go. Do they offer floor spots on club nights the same way as UK folk clubs do ?

Any and all advice gratefully welcomed, I miss her already, and I would like to think that she will find herself at home when she arrives down under ...

Add myself to the list. I rarely get to any events as I live too far out to get to most from most events.

thanks to all who have replied so far.

I clicked eagerly on freda's link, only to see that I had already mentioned the Melbourne Folk Club in the opening post, but thanks anyway.

I imagine that the club will in fact prove to be the main "networking" resource.

Melbourne is a bit far from here for me to know what happens where, but I can say that it is worth keeping an eye on what Andrew Pattison is organising. He has been in the folk scene for many years and usually attracts the best performers. His winery is about an hours drive out of Melbourne. The event in August could be an opportunity for Fiona to network.
