Rex knew how to find the portal into the backyard.

This kind of photo kind of irks me. The dog so clearly was *inserted* into the 'pool'- if he had gone in by himself he would have cooled off his head and forequarters first but if you'll notice, those parts of him are dry.

I'd rather wait for pictures of 'caught in the act'.

I'm in your birdbath, bird-doggin your birds.

(actually, I think he looks like he's enjoying it, whether he was put in there or climbed in)

Maybe he's like a cat - they can cross large expanses of bath water and not get remotely damp!

What summer heat? We're still having the coolest summer on record here. Okay, it does get pretty toasty on some sunny days...but it's surprising how cool the nights have been.

Ebbie, we walked a friend's dog in last Summer's heat. First thing he did when he got home was climb into a water-filled container much too small for him! I'd believe the picture, and the dog's expression!

Not stupid, Golden Retrievers.

Ha, I say. I contend the dog was inserted into the bath and told to "stay". Note the ears- if he were having a good time the ears would be loose and lifted.

Ha, I say.

Well, maybe he's just concentrating, thinking, "I wonder how long I have to sit on the cat...."

"Beating the summer heat? No puppies this season? You mean this is some form of contraception?"

If you don't actually beat it, but you don't finish behind, either, than it's a dead heat. And if you DO break even, can it be fixed again?

But I guess if you ARE fixed, THAT will keep the heat away on its own........

Thread drift: is there a fire under that thing? Are they at the beginning stage of cooking the dog? Could they be 'wokking' the dog? Inquiring minds . . . .

I dunno, Bruce. It doesn't look like one of those "Chow" dogs, but if it keeps on cooking, it can bid "Ciao" to the world as a stir-Fri-do. Maybe some fireman or other should rescue it if he's not taking a Lassie Fare attitude about its fate.
