I'll be staying somewhere in the Manchester area from this coming Monday evening till I fly home on Wednesday morning. If there's any folk type sings, sessions, clubs or venues going on I'd be greatful for any input.
Any suggestions on where to stay or interesting places to eat would again be helpful & much appricated.

Thanks ahead

Barry

The Beech singaround is on the 5th - no good to you I'm afraid. Barry, what kind of stuff do you do?

Thanks Pip for the reply. I'm not so interested in doing something myself though I'm not shy about singing as I am about hearing others sing, best in an informal setting but any folk will do, the more traditional the better. I do sing but for the moment I'd rather sing with others or just hear them sing.

Thanks
Barry

If you have transport and don't mind travelling 50 miles South there's a session on Monday nights at Audlem. Tunes and songs (depends on who's there but we enjoy the variety). It was noisy last week with a lot of 'audience', so only people with loud voices sang, plus a couple of guitar players singing songs with rousing choruses. The rest was tunes, and we mostly went for the ones we all knew and could join in with, left the quiet ones for later in the evening after the bar had shut. We usually start around 8.30 and carry on till we can't ignore the hints of staff collecting glasses (they've not turned the lights out on us yet).

There's the Sale Folk Club on Tuesday night http://www.salefolkclub.co.uk/ or we could get together as Phil suggests.

Swinton Folk Club - Monday 3rd August. Mike Canavan - Local singer, songwriter and raconteur exeptional - Will be a very good night apart from I can only be there until about 10:30 - Still, don't suppose they will miss me too much:-) Swinton is about 5 miles west of Manchester centre - Just on the A6/A580 junction. We will have a couple of floor singers on so if you fancy coming along and want to pre-book a singing slot to be sure you can get on, PM me here and I will send you details.

Also on Mondays is a session at The Lloydds in Chorlton and a folk club at the Midway in Stockport. I'd google to make sure there on and the address.

... and a folk club at the Midway in Stockport.

That's Pete & Linda's lovely club, details at . Pete Hood also runs another website you might find useful, his 'Guide to Folk Music and Folky Stuff in Stockport, Most of South Manchester and Cheshire', at http://www.zen37219.zen.co.uk/folkystuff.htm.

You can't beat The Lloyds for amazing Irish Music from anything between 10 and 30 musicians and enough space to have a chat

Cheers

I've been to Lloyd's and they don't play in 8/3...

If you go there, one of the guitarists might be related to me.

That'll be The Market Tavern in the centre of Sandbach, Cheshire, about 45 minutes drive South of Central Manchester (about 5 minutes West from J17 of the M6). Not been for a while but a fair mix of singers and performers, the usual folk club spectrum from the execrable to the excellent (with a bias at the Sandbach club to the latter thankfully).

Decent beer and good company; usually kicks off about 8:45 but the last time I went, it started late because the MC had been held up, getting one of his cows out of a ditch ...

Have a great time there tonight. We 'struggled' back home through the scenery of Snowdonia without you (although on the right road this time). Loads of memories and photos of your visit..watch this space

Hi Carole & thanks for the great times & memories. Got a huge dose of great singing this evening at the Midway. The string players were spell bounding, it was like being in a maze of wonders & the singing was just out of this world & many of the songs that I could've sworn were trad were penned by the singers themselves. Tell Andrew you guys have to drop in aat some point & not in the far future.

Hi sfmans, I didn't meet Pete & Linda but the couple I did meet running the club in there absent were absolutely delightful, as were all the other members, thanks for the heads up

Not sure about tomorrow night, waiting for the wind to blow.
G'nite

No problem, glad you had a good night. I don't think any of Peter, Linda, or John frequent Mudcat, so I'll try to remember to send Peter a link to this thread as it'll make him happy!
