Paris Swing brand mandolin: good or bad?

Does anybody on the 'Cat play a Paris Swing mandolin? Has anyone tried one and thought it was not worth purchasing? I'm eyeing the Samois MS-130 model with the large "D" hole, but I haven't heard one or played one yet so I don't know whether to believe the company's hype about its sound and playability. Also wondering if there are structural issues associated with that big soundhole.

Is there a better option in the moderate-price range for a mando to be used in a jazz/swing trio (with a guitarist and a keyboardist)? Your comments, please!

Thanks,
Sharon

The only one I have handled or felt is my own oval hole model,Nuages, and I must say that I enjoy both the sound and feel of it. It is a sample of one, however, and the bridge as supplied is adjusted to its lower limit, but it plays well and has great projection. I have heard internet stories of the samois suffering cracks at the soundhole, but no first hand knowledge. All inn all my one was good value for the money. - Dave T.

I have played a Nuages, and it played well and LOUD! I stopped immediately and left the premises to escape the clutches of Instrument Lust and avoid that slippery slope so familiar to many of us.

Thanks, folks. More comments, please! Anybody have first-hand experience with a Samois cracking at the soundhole?

I have the F-hole version, and it's been excellent so far. I'd recommend them - the materials are good quality and the sound is just great, especially for such an inexpensive instrument.
