I am sad to report the untimely death of Moira Greenwood, founder member of Stravaig.
After a long illness she passed away peacefully on Saturday night, surrounded by friends and family.
Details of arrangements will be posted on Mudcat.

She will be sorely missed.

Indeed, very sad news. An essential part of an excellent group, and I'm sure they will miss her more than most.
Sadly

Moira was a lovely person and a beautiful singer.I have nothing but happy memories of her and the group. In former days i was their groupie in Lancashire on their "stravaigs" south.
I am bereft, my sincere condolences to Geoff, to the family, and to the girls of Stravaig and their countless friends.
It's a bottle of MCAllan tonight to see her safely home.
Sleep well my friend.
Forever your groupie Scowie.

Moira will be missed here in Maine as well. My best wishes to our friends in Stravaig, and to Moira's family and friends.

Such a sad loss, and far, far too soon - but I'd like to say just how much Moira, and all Stravaigers, gave to traditional music; not only did they perform it wonderfully, but they made a songbook, they worked with youngsters (and oldsters) and set a fine example of how good it is to sing - only they did it so much better than the rest of us! Sing sweetly, Moira - we'll be listening for you.

New Hampshire remembers Moira and Stravaig as well, and my Truelove remembers with affection running the sound for you there.

Moira's funeral will be held tomorrow (Wednesday 12th August) in Gretna Old Church at 1.30pm. Thereafter to Roucan Loch Crematorium, then to the Solway Lodge Hotel, Gretna.

All friends are invited. No flowers please, donations to Marie Curie.

Your messages are much appreciated by family and friends.

Haven't seen Moira in a number of years - so sorry to hear of her passing - I remember her always smiling and full of fun. My thoughts are with you Jean, Phyllis and Susie. Condolences also to Geoff, Moira's partner whom I have never met.

So sorry to hear of Moira's death -- too soon and with too many songs still to be sung.
I remember fondly how Stravaig would create such a sense of fun in their performances, and was a great admirer of all the work they did to encourage young people to sing.
My deepest sympathy to Moira's family and to Jean, Phyllis and Susie.

Anne.

My sympathies go out to Geoff and the "girls" Jean, Phyllis and Susie. Stravaig were always great fun and only a couple of weeks ago Susie and I were having the grandest crack and looking through some old photos.........

My copy of the Stravaig cd "Movin' On" went up in smoke when the house went, but recently a singing friend let me borrow hers. It seems right to me to make a link on Moira's thread so those who haven't heard Stravaig's singing can have a taste. Stravaig- sound samples

Buy the cd if you can; lovely music, lovely people. Moira, you are sorely missed. Jean, Phyllis and Susie, we'd love to hear you singing again.

I haven't heard Stravaig, but I have met Phyllis, and heard her sing at the Dalbeattie Folk Club. She is a very gracious person, and a wonderful singer.
