I'm excited about my new Sindt whistle

I went out looking for a low whistle today but came home with a regular - well, actually rather extrodinary - D whistle, with a beautiful sound, made by John Sindt. I bought it at the Recorder Center in Toronto.

Hooray - no more squeaks and squawks!

I have a Sindt whistle, too. Nice work.

Congratulations! And thanks for posting. I hadn't been aware of Sindt before.

I took it to The Woods Music and Dance Camp last week and found that my whistle teacher - Norah Rendell - was playing a Sindt as well! Yes, it's a beautiful instrument. Now I finally have something I can learn tunes on.

I take it you're not planning to play free jazz on your new whistle?

Congratulations and play it in good health.

No free jazz, but I might e persuaded to blow bubbles with it if I'm in the mood!

Now I know I could just google for info but I rather gather it more slowly! I have never heard of this kind of whistle, what more can you tell us about it?

Well for a start this was the first (and, as far as I know, still the only) high-end whistle to lure Mary Bergin away from Generation. You'll find everything else you need to know about Sindts, every other whistle under the sun, the Meaning of Life and quite a lot else at Chiff & Fipple.

I think it took a year to get the whistle I ordered from John Sindt. But he makes nice ones.

Sorry - I've been really busy with a children's book project....

Ah yes, my Sindt whistle. It is glorious. What a magnificent whistle! I can play so softly in both registers and it sounds clean and pure and oh so lovely and in tune. (Likewise if I play at any other volume.) I couldn't be happier! I took it last Friday night to the Toronto song circle and did much accompanying with it. A friend emailed me the next day to say that my playing was "exquisite". Was it my playing, or the new whistle?!!!!
