It's a visceral feeling in response to the force of nature. It smells good, it feels good to be safe and warm while listing to the rain and thunder. I love it. |

13 Aug 09 - 09:14 PM (#2699870) Subject: RE: BS: I love to hear thunder and rain From: frogprince Don't mind some thunder, don't mind some rain; but it rained about 10 inches in a day here (Southeast Michigan) a couple of days ago. We just had a little extra wet in the funky old carpeting in our basement. But there are several roads washed out in our area, and the Amtrak can't run until they get stable fill in a sinkhole under the tracks just out of town. |

I like thunderstorms that are not dangerously close - but we can often get severe thunderstorms here with cloud-to-ground lightning. When one of those is sitting on top of the house, the heart rate can definitely accelerate. (North Carolina currently ranks #4 among States for deaths and injuries caused by lightning.) By-the-by, Dean, Michigan currently rates #2. |

She sticks like a leech and trembles all over. |

I sometimes end up sitting on the floor with him cuddling in. Must admit, I agree with Alice. There is definitely a visceral pleasure in being indoors when the elements start. Less so if I'm out in it! |

And it's fun to watch the neighbours point and call to others to "come and see this." Except the last one, which had pea size hail and an awesome cold wind. |

14 Aug 09 - 09:04 AM (#2700152) Subject: RE: BS: I love to hear thunder and rain From: Jeri I got in trouble once because of a hot spell in spring and a thunderstorm. I love to swim, and I miss it a lot. When this storm happened, I went out and got so drenched it felt like I was swimming in air. I didn't realize I wasn't immortal. I also love to watch lightening and hear thunder from a safe place, preferably one that still has electricity. (I want to CHOOSE to turn the lights off!) I get the same feeling when 'snowed in' in winter, but then I worry about what's going to fall off my house or just quit working. (Must remember to buy a generator.) None of that 'cozy-safe inside, fierce outside' feeling is as good without other people around. |

Got to our motel in Whitby, Ontario, before too late. It was nice and sunny; we got our stuff into the motel, and set out for a walk. Got a few minutes on our way, and the sky started looking...different...; had just turned around when the fire hoses, and hail, hit us. I haven't been drowned like a rat like that for a bunch of years. That hail smarted; I wasn't sure for a bit that one stone hadn't cracked the knuckle of my thumb. We survived, laughed, and enjoyed the heck out of the trip and the music fest. Dean |

14 Aug 09 - 06:40 PM (#2700524) Subject: RE: BS: I love to hear thunder and rain From: Alice Yes, I think of forest fires, too, Laurel. We've been lucky with rain this year. It is the greenest, most humid summer I remember in all my life. The normally dry August tinder is not crispy. We do have pines dying from mountain pine beetle, so that adds to the fuel, but this year we've had rain, rain, rain and the lightning hasn't caused anything uncontrollable so far. Quite unusual. |
