14 Aug 09 - 01:48 PM (#2700297) Subject: BS: 10 years of self deception -LEVAQUIN From: Donuel Fluoroquinolone Antibiotic aka Levaquin (similar to Cipro) If you have ever taken Levaquin I hope this post might provide some peace of mind that your reaction to the drug/poison is not just your imagination or coincidence. I had 3 courses of Levaquin and one (perhaps 2) courses of Cipro between 9 to 10 years ago and today I can barely make it up stairs in the morning and it takes at least 20 minutes to functionally use my hands. At present both of my Achilles tendons are ruptured revealing a tender bulbous bump above each ankle. When I first took Levaquin at age 48 I was fully informed that the drug could not be prescribed to children due to growth plate damage in their growing bones. I was not told that my energy and all my connective tissue and tendons would also be damaged. I was not told that mitochondrial damage to all the cells of my body could be permanent. All I knew for sure is that after taking the drug my whole body ached and I needed crutches on occasion. I even found it helpful to buy a wheel chair recently. Actually what is worse than the pain is that I have less than half my normal energy. Now I assume this is due to the mitochondrial damage Levaquin causes. For years I thought of chronic fatigue syndrome or Lyme disease was my problem, but that avenue was medically dismissed. For years I thought I was suffering from some kind of arthritis. I deceived myself thinking that old age had arrived early. Nowadays lab tests can find mitochondrial damage but is not certain proof it was caused by Levaquin. Sometimes I thought I might be having a hypochondriac reaction to the persistent pain. I was used to migraine pain which at least eventually goes away. I assumed I had some kind of nerve damage or muscular neuralgia. It is clear to me now that the pain and fatigue from damaged connective tissue is my primary health issue. Short of surgery to replace/reinforce my tendons I have not found any treatments or cure for Levaquin damage. One way I am able to do simple chores is through the aid of pain killers which I have mixed feeling in taking. Without them, I shuffle virtually like a 90 year old man. With the aid of an electric motor I ride a bike but running even for a short minute will result in injury to my ankles that take about 2 months to resolve. The neck pain is also severe in that it feels like there is a burning pain that seldom goes away. I persistently pursued answers from my current doctor, 2 doctors after the one who prescribed Levaquin, and actually demanded treatment even if we did not know what was wrong. He was honest and trusted my assessment that something was wrong. However he never suggested that I was suffering from Levaquin side effects. The effects of Levaquin in my case were delayed and are seemingly permanent, perhaps owing to the many prescriptions from both a doctor and a hospital my reaction is worse than others. I do not know for certain if there any medical tests to determine if Levaquin damage can be ascertained without a doubt or if there are any treatments that can reverse the effects. I guess I have tendons and connective tissue that stopped regenerating as though they are much older than the rest of me. I have never been litigious in my life (I have only threatened to sue) but some kind of restitution for the pain and suffering as well as the loss of energy, mobility and physical work would be helpful but do little to give 10 years of energy and pain free motion back. |

The Levaquin was prescribed for a simple bronchitis or other later minor infection which any long standing antibiotic would have served just fine. At the time I remember that I did not want to carry any bronchitis to my mother who was in the hospital at the time due to a stroke. I think the heavy marketing of Levaquin was due to the monster corp Johnson and Johnson trying to corner the market. You see, Flouride based drugs are cheaper to make than to dispose of. No thanks for the sympathy Ebbie :) I only hope others might examine thier own possible poisoning by the flouride based quinilone drugs like Levaquin. Some case histories show that even one dose can be hazardous. |

I think it's helpful that you get your story out, because it is important for people to realize that they aren't making these effects up in their heads. www.levaquinblog.com is a blog posting some literature and studies showing that many takers of fluoroquinolones have suffered terrible side effects after just single uses. You should post your story there, as it is inspiring. Hope this helps. |
