my Grampa used to sing this song all the time-it was all in french-alot of my aunts sing it but when I tried to get my French speaking friend to help-she couldnt figure it out-so here goes nothing-sorry I dont know alot, and the french spelling is going to be bad:

they think it is called -fret ajour or fret jour or ssolay, they think it is a song about a mother, but the only words my friend could figure out was
-it is not
-we will always
-you are pretty but then it's not for me

I know it is not a lot to go on-but they sing it at every family gathering and because they are not french-are probably pronouncing alot of the song wrong-hope someone can help me.

Any chance you could call an aunt and get a line or two?

Lola:
if you can give some french phrases, there's a good chance someone here might be able to unmangle them enough to find the song.

Wild guess here, just bevause the words "un jour au soleil" are in the lyrics:

Du Bout des Lèvres

By Barbara (YouTube here), 1968

Vos cris me dérangent, je rêve,
Je rêve,

Venez donc me parler d'amour,
A voix basse, dans ce contre-jour,
Et faites-moi, je vous en prie,
Silence,

Prenons plûtot le soir qui penche,
Là-bas, ce voilier qui balance,
Qu'elle est jolie sa voile blanche,
Qui danse,

Je vous dirai du bout des lèvres,
Je vous aime du bout du coeur,
Et vous pourrons vivre mon rêve,
Mon rêve...

Lola, Melissa is right, some French phrases even spelled "in English" would help much. And if you could also tell us about the kind of song/tune it is, it would also help. "We will always..." = "nous VERB+rons toujours", what does this ---rons sound like? "You are pretty but then it's not for me" would be "tu es jolie mais pas pour moi/mais ce n'est pas pour moi"...

Could 'fret' be 'fete' (How do you do accents on this thing?

alt 0232 =è, alt 0233=é, alt 0234=ê. "fret ajour" could be "f'rait un jour", "or ssolay" is "au soleil" (in the sunshine). I first thought about "Le lundi au soleil" (pop song from 1972) but there's nothing like "you are pretty but it's not for me" in it.
