23 Aug 09 - 11:41 AM (#2706638) Subject: BS: Biding Time For Bill From: Sandy Mc Lean The leading edge of the hurricane is just starting to reach Cape Breton Island. The next few hours could be a bit of fun, but when you live in an Atlantic island you learn to roll with the punches. :-} Sandy |

23 Aug 09 - 12:52 PM (#2706685) Subject: RE: BS: Biding Time For Bill From: gnu It'll rough in the highlands tonight. I see Bill is down to 65mph, but that is always magnified in the highlands. Good luck Capers! |

23 Aug 09 - 01:01 PM (#2706694) Subject: RE: BS: Biding Time For Bill From: gnu Our wind is topping out at about 40mph gusts and we really haven't had that much rain, which has been "heavy" only about five times and added up would be less than an hour in total. So, we dodged another one. I hope our coastal Nova Scotians faired well. Always wonder about Bee. |

23 Aug 09 - 02:13 PM (#2706751) Subject: RE: BS: Biding Time For Bill From: gnu Glad that Bill isn't bad here... just posted an ad on the net for a snowblower and a guy is coming to look at it. Maybe the storm has reminded him it's not always warm when we get wind and precip. |

23 Aug 09 - 02:31 PM (#2706762) Subject: RE: BS: Biding Time For Bill From: Sandy Mc Lean We are getting heavy rain and strong winds but nothing really severe so far. The power is still on and no damage to be seen close at hand. I haven't seen a posting by Bee for ages. She seems to have dropped of the Mudcat map. I hope that she'll soon return! |

23 Aug 09 - 02:51 PM (#2706777) Subject: RE: BS: Biding Time For Bill From: gnu Well, Bee hasn't had much to say since her hubby got back from working away. Nice to think she is now not so lonely as to stoop to associating with reprobates like me on the internut. Hehehee Doesn't sound to bad at all, yet. But, like I said, when winds hit the highlands, the geography can make the difference. Same thing will happen in NF. When bill gets there, blowing 65 knots, the winds at Wreckhouse could easily be over 100 knots. |

23 Aug 09 - 03:34 PM (#2706805) Subject: RE: BS: Biding Time For Bill From: Sandy Mc Lean Yeh, there was a fella who lived near Blow Me down mountain who would call ahead to warn the train when the wind was strong enough to "blow 'er ofa da track." When the Cape breton winds swing to the south east venturi effects of the mountains can increase wind speed significantly. The same thing happens on the Long Range in Newfoundland. |

23 Aug 09 - 03:43 PM (#2706820) Subject: RE: BS: Biding Time For Bill From: gnu Sure does, Sandy. I have driven thru the area just before the road was closed and it was a tad scarey... 3/4" stones pummelling the car... rental with full insurance, of course. And that was a ca'm storm. |

23 Aug 09 - 04:30 PM (#2706846) Subject: RE: BS: Biding Time For Bill From: gnu Sandy... you ever see Lochie MacDougal's house? I understand (stories abound, of course) that he was well paid, by the standards back in "doze days", fer keepin ee's eyes an ee's ears open eh. |

23 Aug 09 - 04:34 PM (#2706850) Subject: RE: BS: Biding Time For Bill From: gnu Nice pic. But, that doesn't look like the house I was told was his. |

23 Aug 09 - 06:32 PM (#2706909) Subject: RE: BS: Biding Time For Bill From: Sandy Mc Lean The same picture is here but it dosn't say that it was his house. Human Wind Guage The storm seems to be over here and the sun has come out. |

23 Aug 09 - 07:31 PM (#2706944) Subject: RE: BS: Biding Time For Bill From: gnu Must be the house. I guess I am remiss, but I recall a house down in the gulch, not even visible in that pic, nestled in the stunted trees. Sigh... long ago and far away. |

23 Aug 09 - 07:36 PM (#2706947) Subject: RE: BS: Biding Time For Bill From: gnu BTW.... I have all my windows open to acccept the gentle breeze... and the COOL air... thank the lord for COOL air. Been s low as 22C overnight with high humidity for a while and that doesn't cool the house down after sunny mid 30Cs and no wind all day, every day. I know it's not "hot" too many, but I ain't used to it. |

23 Aug 09 - 07:51 PM (#2706954) Subject: RE: BS: Biding Time For Bill From: Janie A couple of people missing in Maine, part of crowd watching the waves generated by Bill. Guess Bill is on the coast of Newfoundland now. Sounds like all ya'll are fine, and I'm glad to hear it. Stay back from shore if you go to watch the surf! |

23 Aug 09 - 08:04 PM (#2706963) Subject: RE: BS: Biding Time For Bill From: Alice Latest news is that they found all the missing people on the Maine coast. Coast Guard, etc. was called out, and now all accounted for. |

24 Aug 09 - 06:44 AM (#2707173) Subject: RE: BS: Biding Time For Bill From: Sandy Mc Lean After my last report we had very strong wind of the tail end. It really whipped the trees for two or three hours but no serious damage that I know of. I hope Newfoundland is as lucky! |
