Lyr Req: Songs of farewell

Subject: Songs of farewell - suggestions sought
From: squeezy99

A friend of mine was tragically killed by a drunk driver a few days ago.
I'm thinking I'd like to make a contribution at the funeral - one thought was a song of farewell.
Any suggestions of any suitable songs?

Thanks

Steve

There have been some good threads with suggestions in the past - try here and here for a couple. And sorry to hear of your friend's tragic end - good luck with singing through the tears.

Try "Beyond The Distant Hills"

That's a brave thing you're doing, and I'm sure your friend would be proud of you.

Dave Webber's Parting Song

might be the sort of thing you're after?

Maybe you could slightly rework "Until We Meet Again" by Gordon M. Edwards. (On CD by Kilkenny Krew)

chorus:

Until we meet again my trusted friend
I just want to tell you how good it has been
There's a place in my heart that's always there for you
And I hope it won't be long until we meet again

My mother-in-law's memorial service was last Sunday. We sang four songs, probably none of which would be appropriate but not knowing your late friend I couldn't really say:

"In the Garden" (hymn; congregational participation encouraged)
"Eagle when she flies" (Dolly Parton)
"The Great Storm Is Over" (Bob Franke)
"Now is the hour" (aka Maori Farewell Song)

My wife's choices.

The PArting Glass is one of my favorites.

ALthough not a farewell song, "Abide With Me" will endure and fit any such parting.

I like "And I bid you good night".
