Folking Live - 2010

Hello Folks

New to this so not sure if I'm posting in the right place etc - I'm sure I'll be told if I'm not......

Just a quick one to put the message out that I'm booking acts for our Folking Live events at South Hill Park in Bracknell, Berkshire for the new year. We run monthly on the 4th Thursday and I'm looking for some new artists who haven't played one of my nights yet.

The format is 3 x 20 min sets followed by a headliner for 40 minutes. I'm able to pay the headliner a small amount to help towards travel but the other slots are unpaid. We've worked hard however to get a regular crowd to the events so the gigs are always well attended.

The dates I have spaces for are Jan 28th (including headliner slot), Feb 25th (headliner booked) March 25th (including headliner slot) and April 22nd (again, headliner slot is available).

If anyone on here is interested in playing, please get in contact with me - folkinglivebracknell@hotmail.com or though myspace at www.myspace.com/folkinglivebracknell

Cheers

Phil

Glad to see that you have things going well at South Hill Park. Used to live in Knightswood, very close to SHP. That was in the 90's. Really miss SHP and all the other facilities around there.

Cheers Les - yeah, we're ticking over well at the minute, although really looking to grow the event in 2010 to become a fixture on the scene for up and coming (and the odd established) artists.

Last person I saw in the cellar was Martyn Whyndham Read. Can't remeber now if it was part of a muisc festival or not.

I was a steward at I think the last festival in the 90's

Isn't the Wednesday night cellar club still running?

Also, I did hear that someone is looking to start a pub-based folk club in the Bracknell/Binfield area.

Are you connected to the Folking website that recently morphed into a Myspace page?

In answer to both questions:

I believe the Wednesday Club is currently in talks about being taken over. I've spoken to a couple of people about it, however am unsure if the plans to carry it on were successful or not. It's not listed on the SHP website for the autumn season but that doesn't mean something isn't going ahead. My night and the Folk Club have collaborated in the past and we support each others events - however are kept fairly seperate, due more than anything to the different formats both events take.

Unsure about a club starting in a pub in Bracknell/Binfield - however hope that does happen as it'll be a welcome addition to the town. A friend of mine runs The Bull pub in Bracknell High Street and had a meeting with a guy looking to run something, however nothing has come of that yet.

And Yes - I am connected with Folking.com, as is the Folking Live show. Folking.com is currently going through a bit of a revamp, hence Darren Beech linking the site to the Myspace page for now. There are lots of plans in the pipeline to get it running in some capacity again - with the live events still being a strand of it.

Cheers
