I have a Hawaiian shirt with two sleeves, and a pocket, and lots of buttons. Very becoming.
I have a plaid shirt that fits the same description.

I collected Hawaiian shirts from goodwill-Sally Ann shops in Hawai'i, but about 1990, as they became sought after on the mainland and a book about them came out, those with interesting and rare patterns disappeared from second-hand stores and started showing up on Ebay and in boutiques at much elevated prices.
The most sought after and expensive are some of the old rayons but for wearing I prefer the well-made cotton Reyn-Spooner shirts, which I still wear during the brief summer here in Canada. Some silks were also sewn in Hawai'i.

If ever a thread should be dedicated to a known shirt murderer, this one should.

Where is or WEAR is melodeonboy and that gawdawful nekkid laydee print shirt of his?

Who or what is 'melodeonboy'?
nekkid laydee- sounds like one of those godawful Tommy Bahama things to me. Not a Hawaiian stitch in them. Made in China.

Well I recently bought some very heavy weave 100% cotton shirts (actually they are very cool!) in various attractive colours/patterns (2 colour), and my favourite black/white white has been christened "The Hawaiian Goth Shirt".... :-)

When I visited Hawaii in 2007 I picked one shirt I really liked. I visited my brother shortly thereafter. When I came in for breakfast one morning my sister-in-law asked if I had borrowed my shirt from him. He was in Hawaii FIFTEEN YEARS before, and of all the patterns in all the shops over all the years, he had purchased the very same shirt.

Does the word 'snazzy' come to mind when you look at it?

On Hawaiian shirts, I have seen buttons made of cocoanut shell, mother of pearl, wood, ceramic, brass, and ever-lovely plastic.

In repairing some of my older Hawaiian shirts, this has meant searching the flea markets for buttons that might match when one is missing. The old brass buttons with Kamehameha's profile are very hard to replace.

Friday in Honolulu is the day to go to the legislative building and look at all the various Hawaiian shirts and mumu's that the capitol workers are wearing. Ties, etc. are discouraged on that day.

I have a Hawaiian shirt with pictures of classic Volkswagons all over it. Old Volkswagon nerds are usually jealous. Hawaiian shirt fans usually aren't . . .

I had a Hawaian shirt that showed both George Washington and Abraham Lincoln on a viewing stand watching a hula dancer. It was rather surreal.
