One is in a retirement home and his main chance to play is when our group goes for his monthly gig. The other is still active and going lots of places to play..but lately he's got a piss-poor guitar guy (loud, awful timing, screwy chords) who insists on sitting beside him. For both of them, I've been the solid, steady backup for a few years. The active one gave me a cd a while back--made from recordings of him--and it reminded me that I initially enjoyed playing with him because his timing was so good. Listening to the cd made me think that they might like having a backup cd to play to at home. I'm thinking about making them each one by just using the recording gad built into my laptop. It wouldn't be very good sound quality--but not much different than a portable tape recorder and we all did fine with those for years. I can't play right now, but I can make lists. Does it sound practical to just do every song 4 times through and start each track by saying name/key? The active guy would think it was neat to have somebody to play with at home..the other guy would like it too--and I think it could help him be able to play longer. Is four times through a good length? Is it a good idea to say name/key at the beginning of each track? Thanks, M |

In which case , I would agree with you as to length . And the Title and Key would be useful . In the case of 'Sets' , Three times for each tune would probably be better , again with ALL titles in order as well as the Keys ! |

I figured if I'd sing (or doodl) the first verse, it would be easier for them. They're both used to me and hearing where I am probably won't be any trick for either of them to hear where I am, but I think they'll have more fun if they can hop right in. if the first song for the fiddler cd is 'Faded Love'..the easiest way for him would be for me to say "Faded Love in D"..give the guitar a strum--then start? |
