BS: Now that's strange... 'pet' story

Subject: BS: Now that's strange... 'pet' story
From: gnu

Twenty minutes ago, I could NOT TAKE IT ANYMORE! I marched over to Ches' house, two doors away and asked if his dog was gonna bark ALL night like it barked ALL DAY. Told Ches I cannot handle it anymore... over two years of the yap from as early as 6:30AM til well after I was trying to sleep at night.

Ches went NUTS! He started screaming at me! He said his dog was on his property and could bark as much as he wanted to bark. I said, "Ches, buddy, it's against not only common manners and decency, it's against the law. You have to listen to reason." He brought the dog in and slammed the door... AFTER he said, "You are young and you don't have a dog to love you."

As I was walking away, I started to tear up. For Ches, and his ailing wife, somewhat... but more for the dog because it's not the dog's fault that Ches and his wife treat it so poorly.

That is when it happened. As soon as Ches shut the door and I turned to go home...

My foot hit sommat. I looked down and an absolutely beautiful male calico kitten of about 8 weeks old was "after" me. It walked with me and threaded between my feet and ran in front of me and rolled on the ground and "wanted me". It followed me in the same manner to my door. It mewed profusely. I had stopped several times and tried to shoo it away... even growling and hissing at it... it paid no attention... it just kept after me. A message?

As I type this, it is in my yard mewing. My heart is aching. I can only think I am being punished for upsetting elderly Ches and his wife.

Then again, that fucking dog isn't yapping now like it was for the past two hours. And, the cat will be better off without me. Dunno about me. >;-)

Strange.

Oh, Gary, just let the kitten in. Remember, you don't choose cats, they choose you. Besides, gnus need love, too.

I do NOT like cats. I have only ever kept a few (maybe a dozen or so) until such time as I could find them good homes.

However, gnu, the kitty think you're the cat's a/uh, lemme rephrase that. The feline likes you. Ya got a problem, buddy.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.... I'll go out and....

Oh my... I typed that ten minutes ago but had to answer the doorbell... strange indeed...

A girl of maybe 14 was at the door and a half dozen of her friends were on the sidewalk... "Is this your kitten?"

She said they were walking by and the cat ran to them from under my truck and followed them until they were about to cross Mountain Road (a hundred metres away and four lanes of idiot speeder drivers) and they thought they should bring it back. That warmed my heart.

I told them it had followed me home just a while ago. She asked if I had named it. I said, "No, I never saw it until it followed me home." She said, "Blaze. That's a good name for him." She had an odd look, a smile, on her face. And they left.

Blaze is eating canned salmon in the crook of the fireplace in the driveway. But, no way is that mangy cat coming in this house....

Give up gracefully gnu, you have NO CHANCE, I was a stalwart non-pet keeper, for a lot of my working life I had responsibility for a range of animals at work and the rules of their care were dictated by the Home Office(an Government dept, here in the UK) with very strict guidelines, because of this I did NOT have pets, as I could not hope to maintain the standards I would expect. Some years ago I was introduced to a small fur-ball of medium long haired tortoise shell kitten, who now lives in my home and has done so for 5 years and whom I would not be without!!! called Morgana the Flatulent(mostly known as Little Wugsie)

I put out more salmon and "it" ate that too.

When I took the second bowl of salmon out, I realized that "it" had made a mad dash to me as soon as it saw the bowl in my hand. Confirming that "it", which looked very healthy and clean, was simply gone astray and would be found by the owner. "It" was nowhere in sight at dawn this morning so I know he was found or got home safely.

Glad I didn't get tooo attached.

PS Ches' dog braked for only a few minutes this AM.

"It" was nowhere in sight at dawn this morning so I know he was found or got home safely.

...or had to go find a place to curl up in an attempt to keep warm and dry for a while... Better double-check under the hood of your truck before you start it today!!!

If "It" is only 8 weeks old, it's questionable whether "It" knows where home is (especially if "It" had been dumped out of someone's car). Since you fed "It", "It" is probably hanging around close by.

Subject: RE: BS: Now that's strange... 'pet' story

Nope... I have looked around several times and it's almost noon.

When the last one was brought home, I used to carry it around outside on the property and talk to it. When I got back to my door, I would knock at the bottom of the door and whatshername would let us in. In time, I walked it on a leash... same thing. Eventually I led it around the greenspace out front and the backyards and made a big fuss if it tried to go any further. Within about six weeks, I was comfortable enough to let it roam.

I hope "it" learned a lesson from it's adventure.

Hahahahaa!!!! Thanks... I needed that.

Since a short bit of barking around 7:30AM, haven't heard Ches' little piece of crap lap-yapper barking at all. Perhaps Ches read Bylaw #H-202... especially the parts I highlighted in yellow. And he may have seen the camcorder set up in the front room window.

That reminds me of the time I was in my truck heading home and saw Ches standing in his house at the back door with Yappy on one a them thar retractable leashes. It was snowing and Yappy was having a crappy on Mum's lawn. I inspected. Yappy was also Crappy, big time. At least 50 turds on Mum's lawn! I waited for spring, scooped up all the turds and threw them on his lawn at the end of the driveway while his wife watched me. I waved... she didn't wave back.

Listen! It just started... only six barks... progress!

BTW... I have helped Ches out a lot of times with a lot of stuff. I am not cruel... just tired of it.

Too soft?..... placed in mailbox later tonight?....

Dear Ches,

I apologize for my abrupt request regarding your dog barking steadily for an hour and ten minutes last evening.

I have never said anything to you about your dog barking in the past two years, but I have been under a great deal of stress and strain lately and the pinched sciatic nerve in my back has made me irritable for over three weeks. Well, more irritable than usual.

I hope my request did not upset you and your missus too much. Last thing I would want, really.

I think you should be made aware that I am not the only neighbour who finds the often prolonged barking annoying. Neighbours who live further away from you than me have told me they are upset at times by it. But, like me, they have not said a word. Good neighbours cut good neighbours some slack.

I realize that a dog's job is to protect home and family and part of the duties is to bark when strangers near the property and that is acceptable. Continuous and prolonged barking is not. I assume you would agree.

Again, my apologies if I upset you or your wife in any way. I will continue to strive to be a good neighbour to you and I trust you will return such courtesy.

Sincerely,

g

I don't think it's too soft. You held your ground regarding the dog and apologized from blowing up. Sounds right to me. They maybe had no idea you were building up that much pressure so they didn't expect how pissed off you were. Yeah, cut 'em some slack, but when it starts bothering you so much, let them know before you lose it.

STRANGE that Smokey would tease like that! My best bud had a cat named Smokey that was looney tunes. I offered to off it for him as it was obviously in need. After it attacked a pizza guy, a mailman, and one of the kids... acccckkk... put down by a vet.

My ex's best friend had one named Smokey. Same deal. And it was sneaky as well as vicious. One time, I was reading the newspaper while the "girls" were talking in the kitchen and I "felt" sommat. I looked over the newspaper and Smokey was in prep. I prep'd. When Smokey was in full flight, I dropped the newspaper and smacked it with a throw pillow. I offered to off it too, but it went to the vet as well.

Kinda makes me wonder... why do peeps, when they KNOW their pet is mentally disturbed, continue to allow it cause harm? Cats and such are bad enough, but large dogs kill peeps. Odd... and vey sad.
