I just listened to Pete Seeger singing this song on an album of his called Banks of Marble And Other Songs (on Spotify). Did he write this song? Great lyrics (albeit slightly chilling words to hear when you've been reading NASA reports on melting ice-caps the same day). I could transcribe the words I guess - he sings them very clearly.... |

Just type in "quite early one morning pete seeger". From the 30 seconds I heard on that website, it doesn't appear to be the tune of the traditional folksong--though Pete may have just changed it drastically, and that might be clear if you heard the whole song. Of course you can also buy the entire album. Maybe through CAMSCO. |

I don't know the traditional folksong. Is it of the "as I strolled out one May morning..." variety? The Pete Seeger song is a call to action, a bit of a sort of We Shall Overcome, only one with a the sense of a clock ticking to it, if that makes sense. One for any green socialists out there... |

The Smithsonian Folkways web site says QUITE EARLY ONE MORNING, but the pdf file with the lyrics says QUITE EARLY MORNING. |
