September 27th 2009.

South Portland, Maine.

House concert by Dave Goulder at TRUBRIT's.

Pot luck supper from 5.30pm. Concert from 6.30pm.

This is the same weekend as the Portsmouth Maritime Festival, but was the only date that Dave had available and was too good an opportunity to miss.

Thanks for the link to Dave's website, I knew I knew the name, but it was totally out of context being on a different continent an' all!

He leaves on the 17th for a four week visit to New England, if you get the chance to see/hear him, grab it.
We sing at a session in a local hotel every Wednesday, and each week is an inspiration to me.
In his own word, he's 'Masterly'

Julia,
I will be coming back from Portsmouth with Hillary. It would be great if you could join us. This is at Deborah Coward's house - about 7 minutes from mine. A beautiful old Victorian with multiple baths. Living in a one-holer, I envy her those baths.
Refresh!

We can probably put back the actual concert to 7.00pm - we really wanted to make sure that it wasn't too late a night for those who have to work the next day.

It's about a 45 minute drive from Portsmouth so if those that want to come take off sharpish when the festivities end there shouldn't be a problem.

wish it could have been another day, but that was the only one that suited Dave.

What an amazing evening. All sorts of people showed up including KT! That was a shock. With her sister whi is a local - also a shock. Mark with his wife - we haven't seen Mark in over a year. Mia Boynton, an old friend from the Getaway. I hauled Hillary and Richard up from Portsmouth. Jason and Tami, Kendall and Jacqui, maeve and her friend, Gordon, the British lady I want to call Cassandra but that's not her name. Dave was in top form - everything from dry stone to walls to Ode To Joy on the jew's harp. Mary harmonizing. Lots of song sharing later - how wonderful to have TWO songs from maeve! Well done, Tom and Deborah.
A very tired SINS

One of the best evenings ever!

The food WAS good - particularly the divine chicken curry that Tom Coward made.

I had been a little concerned that maybe we wouldn't get a decent turnout for Dave but we finished up with a total of 18 people in Deb's sitting room for a terrific performance from a consummate performer.

Dave seemed to be enjoying himself, which is always a plus, and will be welcome back to do another concert whenever he can.

We heard some great voices joining in the choruses and were treated to some lovely solo performances from the company during the all too short singaround that followed Dave's performance.

An evening like this makes all the work worthwhile.

Many thanks to Deb and Tom for hosting this concert on such short notice. We are so lucky that they and Mary are wiling to open their houses as venues for these events.

Thanks to Mary for providing beds for Hilary and Richard and Dave and his party.

I'm still humming and smiling; spilling over with delight with the folk and the music. I've said it before, but it's worth the retelling: This is a special community with local kindness and music drawing in treasured visitors and friends from afar... such a wealth of songs and people were gathered together last night!

Sins, my friends who got me there are 2 from down the road and the next town crosslots from our farm- Brigid and Linda.

Thank you to those who gave encouragement for the singing I could offer last night. This is THE place where I can try out songs, and I am grateful. Thank you to Sinsull, Jacqui and Kendall, Deborah and Tom...and the rest of yez.

I hope to see our out-of-town visitors before they vanish again.
